The most disappointing thing from that Henderson interview is where he talks about „doing what was asked, wearing the laces, wearing the armband“ which clearly shows he was doing little more than paying mere lip-service to those frankly brilliantly inclusivity campaigns, and was actually just pretending to be an ally because it would boost his own profile?

And I say this as someone with a number of friends, who just happen to be gay (and if so, so what?) f*** you Henderson, you absolute f***ing fraud.

Strum I'd say that the majority of footballers are just paying lip service to these campaigns because they'd be criticised if they didn't & it's all about their brand

I’d have more respect for them if they actually came out and said “I’ve gone for the money, it’s a ridiculous amount that I couldn’t turn down” Rather than treat us like idiots!

If UEFA ever cave in and let the Saudis into the European competitions they’re mad - it’ll be to the detriment of every european team over time. Sure the campaign will start soon, if it hasn’t already, but hopefully the sensible German clubs can rally enough resistance to prevent it ever happening.

Absolutely right, Eddie.
All these campaigns are , to use a horrible cliche, virtue signalling of the worst kind.

All these players going over there should just say “We’ve come here for the money”

They really must think that the public are stupid.

A bloke on the radio made a good point yesterday. Going to Saudi saying they’re hoping to help promote and build the game in that part of the world, when the largest untapped market can be found in India.

They could go there for a grand a week and play for the Kerala Blasters if the money isn’t the driver behind them.

It’s the absolute nonsense that comes out the mouth of these players.

I'd rather they said 'camel riding is a hobby I just can't do in Europe'

Thing is though, if no other country bids for it what are FIFA supposed to do?

And before you all jump on me I know countries don't bid because of the spurious selections FIFA have made for World Cup hosts in recent times

But still

Reduce the number of teams which qualify to a smaller number which would allow smaller or less wealthy countries to host it. I know, it's not going to happen.

My opinion is that the big European clubs will use the disruption of another winter World Cup as the excuse to force through their super league, and will prevent their players from going by being outside of FIFA jurisdiction.

How would reducing the number of teams taking part affect who bids to host the tournament?

They should just dismiss Saudi's bid on the back of their human rights record & put it out to tender again & invite proposals from countries that don't stone people to death

Easy as that

Countries that had the opportunity to bid for it but didn't? Who presumably wouldn't bid for it again on the same basis?

Mate I am with you 100% on not staging a World Cup in a country with Medieval laws like stoning people to death

But unless FIFA can didactically enforce a country to host a World Cup there isn't much they can do

Just let countries that didn't have the opportunity to bid previously bid next time, open the bidding up to European & South American countries
