You might be thinking of John McGinn, who opted to join Villa rather than us from Hibs (they play in green?) and his comments about Forest weren't particularly pleasant at the time, along the lines of "yes they were interested but why would I join that shower?"

Yeah it was crackers. I remember they teased it and me and my mate waited for the paper to land, only to find it was (according to those total bullshit artists) one of the worlds best! Of course we totally swallowed it!

It’s amazing to think how much the Premier League has changed since those days.

Because it was seen as major coups for Klinsmann to sign for Spurs, Bergkamp to Arsenal, Zola to Chelsea, etc. Many of the other players in Premier League squads were British born.

Whereas nowadays many of the top players from around the world are here and without any surprise. A large percentage of the Brazil squad plays in the Premier League, for example. Back then, there was only Juninho in the Premier League, which was considered another coup. Most Brazilians opted for Serie A, Bundesliga or La Liga. Or to stay in Brazil.

Newcastle signed Mirandinha in the 80’s, everytime he got the ball even if he was 60 yards out they’d be telling him to shoot 🤣

Think he got about 20 in 50 games but I do remember one was a 30 yard raker and that was it the Geordies wanted him ta shoot from goal kicks 🤣

To be fair he wasn't bad really but he was never going to hang about long with that crap Newcastle team.

I'm really not sure about Gimenez, I still think it'll be someone we've not mentioned.

I don't care that he might (or might not) have snubbed us, I just care that he looks like he's only good enough to score in a league where defending and goalkeeping appear to be afterthoughts. His international record is pretty dreadful. Big fat no from me too.

Same. I was skeptical in the summer as it is, but now we are in a much better position we should be aiming higher.

Well, on balance this is the previously linked ‘realistic’ target I want brought in this month.

Good hold up play, strong in the air, predominantly left footed which is something we could do with. Knows where the net is. Excellent foil to Wood.
