Apologies if someone has called this previously, but he's a top player and will make a top level manager one day. Not the best footballer in the squad, but if everyone else showed half of the commitment, application and all-round approach he puts out there, we'd be sitting pretty.

Garibaldi core.

When you hear the other players praise his work ethic, you know that this should be the case.

It's all about mid-table...
There probably arent many in world football with a better mentality than him. Even in the shit times he was the one taking responsibility. Its just part of him.

Not sure when his contract is up but we should give him a long one.
I agree, be great for the club to tie him to a long contract.

Not good for his career tho imo.

How come? Unlikely to be playing higher and his legacy from a football career could be going down as a club legend at his boyhood team. If he keeps up his performance levels, he would play (even if coming off the bench) in 20+ prem games a season.

Imho, we need better central midfielders next season.
We do, but it doesn't automatically follow that we should be looking to cash in on Yates or demote him to the fringes (which seems to be the implication your message - sorry if I'm wrong). His form's dropped off since the turn of the year, granted, but he had some very decent games up to then. I can't forget how he came on and changed the game v Sheff Utd by doing the simple things well when everyone around him had gone into headless chicken mode. Chelsea away and Man Utd at home - two more very effective displays.

Sure, he's not going to deliver 7 or 8 out of 10 every week at Premier League level, but he's still got a part to play in a (hopefully) growing team. And if we do improve the personnel around, so will he up his game.

I can't believe we're talking about players we need when we don't even know what division we'll be in next season. But for me midfield isn't close the being the priority.

Sangare wishes he was half the player Yates is, especially in this league.

Sangare is half the player Orel Mangala was, you know, the possibly only competent central midfielder Forest had, who they subsequently had to bin off, to offset the 37m vanity signing.

Saturday will tell us much. A resounding win and we should be able to stay up. Honestly, I don't think Yates is good enough for the division. He has heart, but everything in his game is average or below that, beyond the determination. Unfortunately, that isn't quite enough to justify him staying with us if we stay up. If we happen to go down, of course he should stay.

Maybe this thread is real proof that white holes exist.
