Pre-Season

I know it’s only pre season but brizzle getting beat 5-0 at home to palace surely indicates we’ve at least got 23rd nailed

Stoke have spent good money on Lindsay, Batth and still have Martins Indi. They should be fine.

Ouch!

I know "pre-season" means nothing but those kind of results do.

I remember when Sunderland lost 5-0 to Celtic when they got relegated to League One.

Newcastle lost 6-1 to Orient (their last preseason game) then won the league in 2009/10, can either spur you on or knock you down.

Yep, they are either a big wakeup call or a complete demoraliser.
Option 3 is they mean nothing as they're arnt competitive and more about fitness and squad cohesion.

I suppose it depends how many changes/new players are in the individual match day sqaud.

In the whole yes, but a 5-0 to a team 1 week behind you in pre-season means something has gone terribly wrong, especially when it's your last game before the season starts.

Well, pre-season over and my earlier confidence has waned somewhat. It's clear to see Lamouchi wants to play the 4-1-2-3 and overload the flanks but the problem is Silva isn't getting in the games at all and asking Watson to be the creative player does obviously slow any counter attacks down. The resultant effect is that we're struggling to create, relying on a bit of magic from Adomah (who won't provide any, ever) and Lolley (who will).

If we don't have anyone better than Watson then there should be some consideration to move to a 4-2-3-1 with Yacob and Semedo holding and Silva as the creative player in the hole.

We're not bad enough to go down but we're not slick enough to go up either on current viewing.

Where's me hammer?
I‘m sorry but he’s an absolute thug; pub-team footballer without as much talent as a geriatric labradoodle.
Started at United as well didnt he? Hardly their kind of player really

Morning guys and gals. Been a lurker for ages but niw joining in proper. 30 year reds supporter frok Mansfield, living in exile in Leicester.

Can anyone tell me why there is so much negativity?? I watched the game last night and it was disappointing to give the goal away late on, I saw a lot to be happy about. Despite being a friendly, we matched a Seria A side, bettering them at times.

Happy to join the debate gents, lets be more positive about a brill new season! We support a fantastic club and we as fans are so important, lets give it some tea time next Saturday!!!

Pretty much how I feel too. Current squad has mid table written all over it and, unless we make 4 or 5 quality signings between now and the end of the window (incredibly unlikely IMO), my expectations for this season are pretty low TBH.

Set pieces mate.

He can really take them, it may make a huge difference. We haven't had a good set piece taker for years.

If we get Grosicki it’ll be mad having 3 set piece takers in the squad with him, Silva and Carvalho

Who would have been the last decent set-piece specialist? Reid or McGugan, I guess?
