As an example - Wolves, a team similar in size and stature to us, literally played three teams from the Portuguese Primeira Liga as their first three pre-season games last pre-season

There's no excuse for us playing teams like Chesterfield at all, the club massively need to sort this out

I'd sooner not play a game at all than play Chesterfield, there's literally no value in it

Sorry mate but I totally disagree. What about the funds it generates for the other side?
Football is completely “one eyed“ as it is, with literally no money coming down the pyramid to non league clubs (I know, I’m a director of my local non league team)….. playing league sides in pre season friendlies is a vital source of income for teams further down the food chain. Sky and the Premier league have ruined football at the highest level, aided and abetted by bent foreign owners and agents.
Good to remember that as we carried away with trying to survive in this nonsense of a league, where the top 6 are untouchable and success is defined as surviving, not actually winning something!

I do wonder how long it'll be until the club cottons onto the far-east or United States tours in pre-season. Feels like we got spain for a bit, then Germany and England.

When the club is looking to make money, get some of them Spain-Germany fixtures going abroad, especially with the World Cup coming up in the US.

As long as there is one at the City Ground, it don't matter to me.

Shame we're not getting a County pre-season though. Enjoyed it the past couple times, wonder if we'll get a Mansfield one?

It's not the club cottoning on, clubs are paid to go on them, they don't organise them themselves.

They are booked early in the year, when we aren't in a relegation battle we will be involved in them because they'll want guarantees they'll be selling tickets for a Premier League game.

Talking to a young lad in Tenerife a few years ago (league 1 days) he had an Arsenal shirt on. He had a broad Leeds accent. I told him he should support his home club - he said Leeds are shit.
I told him - I support Forest they are my home town club and that we were shit as well.
The lad said he had never heard of Forest!
I said thats it - go and get your dad immediately.
10 mins later he came back with this gorilla full of tattoos and a Leeds shirt. I thought I was in trouble.
Anyway - I gave his dad a bollocking for ‘no parental guidance’ letting his lad be an Arsenal fan.
The guy said ‘what can you do?

We spent the next 2 hours sitting drinking and talking about the good old days when Forest and Leeds were good teams.

It’s interesting how pre-season has changed throughout the years. Presume the days have gone where players return massively overweight and having to almost start again with fitness. Think they go away with own personal fitness plan over summer to combine rest, but maintain a level of fitness, then they return it’s probably just a case of fine tuning and getting back match sharpness.
