He's an interesting one to me, last season I thought he was very underrated by our fans, but at the start of this season I thought people overrated how well he was playing.

I genuinely liked him, but he always felt like someone who COULD become a really good player for us, but never quite managed it.

I think to make a decent profit after two seasons where he helped us stay up is good business by the club, and another one of them where no one loses. That still feels weird after 23 years where 99% of the time Forest definitely lost lol

But wouldn't VfB Stuttgart get more if the overall fee is £30m, than £20m?

I hope that's not the scenario. Not very smart to be seen to be screwing clubs over!
Ten percent, is what I was told.

He was our best midfielder at the start of this season and had cut out the concentration issues that made him a nearly there player for me last year... While I liked him a lot at his best he was a tidy player rather than someone who could dominate, not that our setup made it easy for anyone to do that in our midfield.

Ultimately, as I said at the time, I think he wasn't progressive enough for Nuno - he was decent at beating the press, kept the ball well and kept it ticking over, but didn't have the kind of dynamism Danilo has, which is apparently why we wanted Sangare, not that he's shown much.

Good lad though, seemed a decent sort and ultimately it probably came down, as others have said, to being the best player we had that we could get a decent fee for that we hopefully wouldn't miss long term.

And while I thought we could have done with him at times after his loan last year, now we've stayed up I don't miss him already and think we could do better for the fee we got.

I'm no football scout so my opinion is worthless, but I never thought the concentration issues were as big of a deal as some made out in his first season, which is probably why I also thought he was being overrated in his second I guess. I still thought he was our best performing midfielder at the time anyway it's just I felt it was at a similar level to season before just at a time when other players weren't weren't clicking in midfield

Tbh though it sounds like we have the exact same opinion of him in general anyway, and as you say seems a decent bloke. Good luck to him but in five years time it'll likely be one of those "remember when he played for us?" players you get in football, rather than a "what could have been"

Can someone explain to me like I'm 6 years old what happened with Lyon?

They've got links to Palace, yet buy 2 of our players at massively inflated fees, then almost immediately are reported as being in financial trouble and needing to offload?

I feel like I'm missing a key part of the story here.

I've got absolutely no idea either. I've not looked into it but had the bewilderment as yourself.

I'm with you on this one. There's a pronounced aroma of fish emanating from the general direction of Lyon -- including from our amazing deals with them. I'm still wondering what the catch is. Of course, you can never rule out the possibility that they're just idiots...

Anyone who knows the truth probably isn't going to write it down anywhere.

Everton fans are do depressed with their start. I think we should go on their forum(s) and under the Mangala thread put complimentary but negative comments just to keep them depressed. The ones we saw when Shelvey signed which raised some concerns.

"Mangala , what a nice bloke, has his limitations but can't fault his efforts"

"Loved Mangala at Forest, he just wasn't up to the standards we want to aim for, but all the best to him"

"Suprised he has gone to Everton, he is good at winning and keeping the ball but not great at progressing the ball which they seem to need at the moment, but he is a good character in the dressing room"

"We have upgraded with likes of Nico and Sangare but will always have a soft spot for Mangala "

Forest are magic on and off the pitch!

What a strange turn of events for Mangala. No wonder Lyon are in the shit financially.

There's talk of the Everton move being a loan as well as a permanent.

The only logic I see in this is that it was widely reported that Lyon paid a hefty loan clause and it wasn't that much (relatively) to convert the loan to a permanent, reports at the time were £18m.

So if Mangalas market value was above that figure it makes sense for Lyon to trigger that option and move him on in the same window. That action also helps with any PSR issues this season.

Of course, it helps too if you know in advance which club will buy the asset off you because you're buying that club. And for Everton it's not a terrible deal either, they needed a Onana replacement and Mangala is more than capable of being that player.
