Omar Marmoush

The Frog

I'm not really buying that Nuno turned him down personally. I think it was probably more the case of either the player turning us down or Frankfurt demanding a fee on deadline day that Forest weren't prepared to pay.
As far as I could tell it was late in the day, we offered 30m ish as he was 4/5th choice on our list, Frankfurt new we had 40m after Eddie and Santi deals fell through. We didn’t want to stretch, player was unsure and it didn’t suit everyone in the end. Pretty certain before the summer nobody would have heard of him apart from Strum and most would have pencilled it in as a panic buy for 30m.

One of those things. Since then he has gone on to tear it up for a longer period and has now got the attention of the big boys for stupid money.

That said, I truly believe we were on the right lines with him over an out and out striker. We won’t get him but I’d be looking at players with the exact same skill sets.

Re: Marmoush - it was the player‘s own decision to stay at Eintracht this season.

If you go back in this thread a bit, I posted a translation of his comments in the video he posted from the Waldstadion.

Was this ever the case? Pretty sure Marmoush was the one that decided to stay at Frankfurt and then we gave up on our striker search
From reports from then & after...

We were willing to pay a certain amount, he was willing to come, but Frankfurt wanted more & Nuno advised against breaking the bank. £20m was talked about & they wanted slightly more.

And then the story broke that he was happy to stay.

Which I find strange as we were clearly willing to pay more for Giminez without Nuno objecting.

Anyway......all conjecture.

City about to pay £60m+, seems like a significant overpay to me.
January prices, and Eintracht drive a hard bargain as they don’t want to lose their star man mid-season unless it’s for ridiculous money.

Several German media outlets are reporting a deal has been agreed for Omar Marmoush to join Manchester City.

Well we offered about £25-30m based on 17 goals & 6 assists in 41 games

He's got 20 goals & 14 assists in 26 games since, so I would say it's about right
His record when we were looking is probably also a reason why we didn't push harder - up until this year he was more a work in progress in terms of output.

Edit: or maybe last season was his big breakthrough - I forget the stats but remember he'd only really done it for one year.

Maybe so, he’s certainly got the stats over the last 18 months to warrant his PL move.

Frankfurt confirm that they are in discussions with another club over Omar Marmoush i know its probably not us but just imagine the scenes if it was other club could mean City but how its worded it says another club so you would normally take that as another club other than City
🤣

They're just driving the price up. Realistically there are only a couple clubs who could rival city for him. Agree though, would love it to be us but would've liked it more if we'd got him for 25M!

I think that story is simply saying they are talking with City, being another club to themselves…..

They’ve verbally agreed a fee with City, hence why Marmoush didn’t play last night as Eintracht beat Dortmund, 2-0.

Die Adler were looking for something in excess of €50m and want a quick deal, to give them time to reinvest the money to bolster their squad for a European push.

Lets see what happens with him.

Will he get in the side ahead of Harland, will he even get any game time or will he end like Jack Grealish, filling a role that is so freaking boring whereas we all know at Villa he really did a good job with his talent.
He cost 100 million, many players could do the exact same role for far less. Just don’t get that one.
Anyway,
can’t see them playing both up front right now.

When we beat City 4-0 he can only dream of playing for us but as we will filled the striker role with someone excellent, it will stay a dream :)

He'll rotate with Doku and Grealish while learning Pep's system. It usually takes a year or two for them to adapt to it, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's underwhelming in the meantime.
