the pen takers were probably left to the players , doubt milenkovic being no.2 taker would be on anyone's choice. Nuno did say that they had practiced penalties in training but on the field , it's always going to be a bit of a crapshoot.
I had him on my list as #5. (I didn't, obviously but what a pen - not sure if he's taken them at international level, but as far as transfermarkt tells me that was his first at club unless shootouts don't count.)

Anyhow, it'll have been picked with players and training data you'd think.

Not entirely sure he would be unhappy to play well and lose on pens.

Makes his life easier in some ways.

I'm sure he would have preferred to win but doubt he lost a lot of sleep last night.

Last night should not have gone to penalties.
Nuno, in taking off Anderson when Taiwo was visibly wilting in his boots, broke the link between defence and attack, and left us clinging on thanks to some stout defending.
If he had taken off Awoniyi and brought on Wood, and left Anderson on, who knows, but I reckon we would have scored a 2nd and won the tie in the 90 minnutes.

We'll need Anderson for the weekend though, and my take is that he gave Taiwo the time to build him up.

Gave him the pen too in a 'do your job lad' type way. Not sure why T looked so nervous going up - wonder if the striker rumours have him second guessing how the new manager feels about him?

i think yates will come in , anderson was worn out yesterday by the time nuno replaced him with elanga
The recovery powers of these young men cannot be underestimated.
I predict that Anderson will get the start v Wolves, with Yates coming on if and when Anderson gets leggy.
The big question mark is what to do about Jota?
He gave a good account of himself last night, but where would we slot him in?

Woody was coming on for Big T when Anderson faded badly and signalled to the bench that he was cooked, hence the reason why Tony came on.

I'm all in on Nuno, he's the real deal. Consider the shite hand he was dealt when he joined us last year - following a Club Icon, VAR lunacy, AFCON, Points Deduction etc - yet he still got us over the line and had us competing in pretty much every single game against every team in the league. Not once can i recall us being easily beaten off the pitch (Villa away first half is the closest i can recall)

But what i'm seeing now after a good pre-season is beautiful effective football, high energy, high octane and high pressing football at that. Get him the right striker and honestly, he could have us mid table come May. A top top manager.

Poor Nuno

Just watched his press conference from early today. The guy is as rough as a dog with a dose of lurghi and he’s having to answer mind numbing questions about the structure of the cup draw….the cup which we’ve just been knocked out of…

He won't start, he ran his bag off last night. He'll be on the bench but he'll give us an option to either come on out wide or if we need to try something different he can play alongside MGW with both of them behind the striker.

Encouraging start to the season both in terms of how the new look squad has seemingly adapted well and how we dominated Southampton.

I would have rolled the dice over summer for the right manager but happy to be proved wrong if we continue an upward trajectory.

Yeah, not involving Yates suggests he's got the start sat.

Yeah, the questions are so rote. Why do they bother.

It was a bit cautious but you can see why he's done it. If Wood is half a yard back and we win the game 2-1 then it looks genius.
