Mansfield winning again.

So impressive that the 3 teams that got automatically promoted from League 2 last season are all in the top 6 of League 1 this season so far.

Wrexham and Stockport being the other teams.

The Radford's are due a bit of luck because of their relentless investment into Mansfield. They must have put in about £20 million at the very least but they put too much trust in the wrong people for too long.

It would be great to see them in the Championship making a fool out of Derby.

It is great to see Stags doing well, Clough deserves it as it took him a few goes at the playoffs to get them up. Hopefully they are still in a strong position in January and they can strengthen to give themselves half a chance of going up.

Talking of the stadium, I am surprised they never moved to the site where Amazon now sits (as I got told that idea was mooted about). Field Mill is such a weird stadium, obviously they only have the three stands but also every time I have been it is sunny but it is the coldest/windyest stadium on the inside I have ever been too.

First game I saw the Stags was at Field Mill Easter 1969, a mid week game v Barnsley. A lot of the Stags fans were greasers and quite robust lads.

They are planning to open the fourth stand by January and then expand over the next two years.

My old man was a bit of a Stags fan and his old man was a Hammer who moved up from Poplar to Mansfield after the war.
I used to go there a lot as a kid.
One of the first games I remember was when Mansfield beat West Ham 3-0 in the 3rd round of the Cup @ Field Mill in front of over 20,000 in 1969 (I think)

West Ham team included - Moore, Peters, Hurst, Bonds, Brooking & Harry

Would love to see Mansfield and Lincoln in the Championship

Lincoln had a stint in the second tier 50s / 60s if memory serves
.....and knocking the Sheep out of the Cup. :bristolfan:

I remember that result well as we had a couple of Hammers fans in my class and they got soundly mocked for weeks.

There was a fairly lengthy update on the Bishop Street renovation a couple of weeks back, a 16 minute video. It's been more complicated than thought. The video was drawn out, but having seen some of the stuff they have to deal with it's not too surprising it's more complicated.

From what I remember, there is very little space behind the existing stand to the terraced houses behind.
What sort of capacity will the new stand be?

Pretty much exactly this. There's not a whole lot of space behind the stand and the houses there.

There's nothing really concret yet, but an estimated 1,400. It depends on various factors.

It really ended up a mess after all the years it was left alone and in the condemned state.

It's mad when you think of all the space around the other 3 sides of the stadium, they just need to move the whole lot about 50m and they will be fine.

Is there any way they can buy up the houses at the top of Bishop Street?
I know it costs money but if they could buy say 10 houses on each side of the road - so 20 houses at what £50k each (maybe under-valued) -so £1m total - that would give them enough space to duplicate the main stand

I used to stand on that terrace as a kid.
Used to move from one end to the other at half time - to be at the end Stags were attacking.
Cuddly Dudley Roberts up front!
The Old man used to say ' If you don't behave yourself - I'll bring you again next week'

It seems unlikely they could do much as the houses aren't the only problem as there's quite a significant drop right behind the stand. The video shows it quite clearly. What is there is what they have, so they are trying to just make it usable and presentable with some corporate and media facilities above the area.

The lead designer says that the best way to really improve the numbers would be to fill the corners on the main stand side and that would be a relatively simple job. The Bishop Street is the main focus because it is an ugly eyesore, which it is. I've been to a couple of friendlies when we went there, and it really was rather unpleasant and does spoil a fairly decent lower league stadium.

I've always had a soft spot for Field Mill. It's the first ground I won trophies on on the county, league and schools cup finals and where I was first noticed by scouts. This was in the early and mid nineties so it was still ramshackle and before the 3 new stands were built but it was the first professional stadium I played in and felt like a big deal at the time.

Just watched the video about the Bishop St Stand. I expect those subterranean bogs will be a bit grim by the end of half-time. 😝
