Buying players these days is quite tricky, particularly with the present crack down on FFP severely limiting the buying power of most clubs.

Every game you need 20 players to put on the field or fill the bench. You can't buy 20 top players in case you need them (unless you're the top one or two clubs) so you have to buy either a few genuinely top players, a few first class and the rest to sit on the bench and hopefully shine for a few minutes a month.

Buying those not very good players is always going to provide us with some who just don't cut the mustard. You're not going to buy quality every time. Like finding a rotten tomato at the bottom of the bag.

I really think afcon screwed us this season. Our players (aina, boly and sangare) were available about 3 weeks after everyone else’s for whatever reason but it also disrupted any chance of sangare coming into the team imo. Whether he actually wants to play here or not, he’s got to start playing next season to try and either make forest his team or get a move away.
i really hope the real sangare stands up next season and we get to see what we paid for

He signed on the 1st of September, then went on international breaks for 2 weeks on Sept, Oct and November, then to AFCON for a month in January/February. He's been away just as much as he's been here.

It's no surprise he's not settled really, is it? He's been disappointing, but I'm hopeful he'll turn it around next season.

When I clicked on this topic, the very first page came up. Interesting looking back at that; he seemed the answer and a very good buy, but it hasn't quite turned out that way. Hopefully in a more settled team, playing in a position he likes will reveal a different, better player.

Needs game time & a period adjusting to the league.

Folk forget he starred in our best performance of the season v Newcastle.

He'll come good.

Those who have already written him off need their heads wobbling.
That may well turn out to be true, but I've seen most games this season and still not sure what role he is, or what type of player he is.

I did not want to write him off but the more you analyse him you can see why none of the top teams ended up pursuing him.
He is far often too slow with his decision making, uncoordinated and clumsy. He also has a habit of not tracking his man, which at this level is criminal.

Personally I think even in his YouTube highlights from PSV he looks pretty average and not suited to this league.
If we can get anything close to £20m I would sell, maybe someone in Saudi can help us out.

Sangare's season summed up:
  • Sold by PSV. PSV win their league.
  • Dropped by Ivory Coast for the latter stages of AFCON. They improve and win the tournament.
  • Dropped by Forest for the run in, Forest get the results needed to stay up.
I think he has some ability but this season his teams have been better off without him.
He's clearly had a shit year - it's how he bounces back that's the important bit...

We'd be crazy pinning all our hopes on him, especially so with Kouyate likely leaving too, so we'll need competition, but my hope is that he gets his head back on and comes back stronger. If he has ambitions of being a top player, well, that's what they do.

Interestingly, on the Teamtalk show the other night Charlie McParland (yes, I know) said he'd seen Sangaré a few times for PSV whilst on scouting assignments for Aston Villa and had always been highly impressed by his ability to dominate midfield.

Sangare is 26 years old... he ought to have his head sorted by now.
I'd like him to sort out his feet, his fitness, and get his confidence back.

He probably thought he did (have it sorted) until this year, but it looks likely the move has been tougher than anticipated and has rattled him.

But yeah, fix all of it!

Give him a tough pre season and if he's still struggling to adapt to the demands over here then maybe loan him to a european league that suits him. If he's not going to offer anything here the next best option is to get his wages off our books and let him regain some confidence/value at a level where he can stand out, then hopefully we'll have half a chance at not writing off £30m + £80k a week

Not ideal but it could be for the best if he can't find his feet at this level

I think similair to the experience of Mangala initially, the EPL is unforgiving for any player that can sometimes dwell on the ball.

I hope similar to Mangala that a preseason and full awareness of this will see him deliver what he wants.

I did think I could justify what has happened this season by comparing the eredivision talent coming to the prem who have similarly struggled but will acclimatise in time but.....

Kudus and Alvarez at West Ham have been pretty good playing 32 and 30 games. Bassey has played 28 games (Like Kudus and Sangare he was involved in afcon), Kerkez has played 27.

Sangare with 16 appearances has played the least, doesn't appear to have had any major reported injury (Unlike Timber who Arsenal broke pretty quickly!) and just hasn't found his mojo.

There is a player in there.

Saudi perhaps? Apparently they want to 'increase the league's competitiveness' this summer, so maybe we have some magic beans to sell them.

As for Sangare coming good, it's possible, but first impressions of a player are usually about right. If he really wants it he'll come into pre-season training like a man possessed. If he doesn't, then sayonara.
