VP, you are more than welcome to claim FC St. Pauli, a side whose popularity transcends their humble Hamburg origins.I don't have a German team, my six years in Germany were before the Budesliga was formed.
Though I like St Pauli simply because it reminds me of happy times many years ago.
Pied Piper?Hamelin was one of the nicest places I've ever been to in Germany was one of the stops on a European tour of a punk band I was driving think it must of been in the world's smallest pub too
Yes mate little status's of it all round the placePied Piper?
Willkommen, mein alte Freund!I’m qualified to play for Germany.
If I’d been good enough the World Cup in 2014 would have been my swan song!
My grandad came from the East but stayed in England after being released as a POW following the end of the war.
If I was picking a German side to support I’d go with Dynamo Dresden or Lomomotiv Leipzig, who now play in the fourth tier.
Slightly different, but when we lived in Egypt, my Dad had German POWs working for him until they were repatriated. He said they were lovely guys, good workers and they made a three tier sewing box for my mother before they left.I’m qualified to play for Germany.

Unfortunately it tends to be stoked by the media. Certain sections, namely the right wing mob, seems to be hell bent on recreating WW2 every time Germany is mentioned. It’s why I hate hearing young English lads singing stupid chants like the German bomber ones when they go abroad. They haven’t a clue about war and they certainly don’t have a clue about respect.
I would agree with this view.Unfortunately it tends to be stoked by the media. Certain sections, namely the right wing mob, seems to be hell bent on recreating WW2 every time Germany is mentioned.
The reality is that our countries have far more in common than we have to bicker over.
It's also a wonderful country.
I learned what German speaking knowledge I have from BFES school in Altona and German chaps in our office at the ammo depot.I would agree with this view.
Germany has - fairly obviously - accepted its role in (especially) WWII and the horrors that occurred under the NSDAP between 1933-45, and still today, atones for that time.
You don‘t see similar jingoistic nonsense in the German media, apart from the occasional trashy piece in Bild, but that is really Germany‘s only gutter-tabloid, and such nonsense only really pops-up when there is an international football tournament!
It has, I have to say, declined considerably in quality since your day VP.I learned what German speaking knowledge I have from BFES school in Altona and German chaps in our office at the ammo depot.
The written language (spelling etc) I got from reading Herr Schmidt's Bild zeitung! Oh dear

Will be great when they discover cricket. This is correct.
The Germans are the closest to Brits, in regards to culture, way of life etc etc, than of any other country in the world.

Nothing to do with there being a regional team called FC Nottingen about 30 miles away from Stuttgart then?Stuttgart, good choice!
„Stuggi“ might not be the most attractive city in Germany (narrator: it is not) but you can blame the RAF and USAAF for that, because they blew most of it up in WWII, and the city centre and many of the suburbs had to be completely rebuilt mostly in the 50s and 60s, and well, its nice if you like concrete, let us say. But, venture outside the inner city and you will find a vibrant, green and welcoming environment, with loads of parks and open spaces, and unique geography - the city itself rests in a steep valley straddling the river Neckar - means that there are lots of interesting things to see, plenty of great hiking and cycling trails, and other regional peculiarities owing to the consistent good weather, like the impressive collection of local vineyards, producing some really good local wines.
And yes, there is indeed a Freundschaft between Forest and Die Geißböcke, and I have known before of several Forest fans who’ve been to watch Effzeh in the past at the Rhein-Energie Stadion. That has been going for some years, as well.
I often wondered if it had anything to do with Tony Woodcock, a man who is still extremely popular in Köln!
Not as far as I am aware!Nothing to do with there being a regional team called FC Nottingen about 30 miles away from Stuttgart then?
Funnily enough, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python and English humour in general, is massively popular in Germany.
Absolutely. It’s a legendary piece of entertainment. Not forgetting " Dinner for one" that is broadcast several times on every New Years Eve without fail .. in English. Freddie Frinton, older forum members may know the name. Great comedy!
