Afternoon all, hope we're we'll.

Quick FFP/PSR thought. As we remember Nottingham Forest were not permitted to exclude Promotion Bonuses. Rightly or wrongly that seems go be the new benchmark.

Does it apply in EFL too as I wonder abour Ipswich..some screenshots coming up buy their own admission they were £4m within the EFL limits but they edclcued from their calculations Promotion Bonuses.

As we also know.EFL Rules have a bit of a sliding scale..I wonder if there is a dispute coming up there and if not why not.
I wouldn't worry. Ipswich have neither Nottingham nor Forest in their name so should be fine.

I'm kinda hoping they do fall foul as our former CEO who nearly wrecked us (Mark Ashton) hence the painful reset under Nigel Pearson and Richard Gould. 😀 He jumped ship in Spring 2021, negotiated with Ipswich while srill employed here and then Gould as CEO and NP as manager had to sort it out. We were heading for FFP disaster.

It has probably done us some good losing Scott and Semenyo aside- but Ipswich fans crowed greatly for some time about that CEO.

CEOs with the initials MA are a sore point around these parts 😆

We're serious about promotion....are you....?

If a side without parachute payments comes up this year, which hopefully will happen as Bristol City, Coventry and Sunderland are all in the play-offs, then I wonder if their best chance of survival is to invest the two years of guaranteed PL income in the first season and make a good fist at staying up.

I don't think there's an argument here in the way you've framed it. Is a club more likely to stay up in Y1 having invested £150m+ rather than £50m? Yes, obviously. Are they more likely to stay up second season with more investment and a points deduction? Almost certainly as that combined £250m+ spend or whatever it is will likely be worth five more points than a £50m squad gets.

The more pertinent question I suppose is whether the increased spending % is aligned to the increase % of points expected to achieve and subsequently does the additional spending therefore make it worthwhile to take the punt to stay up, because if you still expect to go down afterwards then it doesn't make much sense as you just limit yourself next year.

Forest frankly were a bit lucky in both seasons. First season back we were very close to relegation and in a number of other Opta simulations (lol) we would have been. Second season we should have been relegated and only weren't because the three promoted sides didn't just lack quality but the one with the most quality stuck to ideological principles that got them relegated. Burnley should have stayed up our expense.

So our spending certainly made it possible to stay up, but other factors came into play as well, factors which were arguably more important because you can look at Ipswich for example having spent £150m this year and bought from the Premier League - Philogene, Hutchinson, Delap is a lot like our MGW and Williams purchases. They also targeted top Championship players like we did with Toffolo and O'Brien. For all intents and purposes Ipswich copied our model, went down with a whimper and now have limited manouvre room next season. They'll have to get promoted with the side they've got.

So is the Forest "model" a blueprint for success? Not for me. It's a coin flip which we won.

Financial Fair Play: should be used in English grammar lessons to illustrate the meaning of "oxymoron".
The way it is applied is a contradiction in terms.

How do you fancy your chances in the playoffs mate?

Sheff Utd seem like the good ones to play at this point, the wheels completely fell off the last couple of months and their confidence seems dead.

You might not realise but we absolutely hate Sheff Utd. We've got a bigger rivalry with them than Leicester.
You'll find most Forest fans will be cheering your lot on.

Could get a good deal on bringing Cash back and he also helps with the trained at club for Europe
Yeah that is my main reasoning

Probably the only academy player that would be a useful player without breaking the bank. Then bring in Darlow as 3rd choice & we have full club trained quota.

It's a tough one. Excited but nervous at the same time- first time since 2008 so it is fairly uncharted territory.

Yeah they from say Idk early April went on a bad run losing in consecutive games at Oxford, at Home v Millwall and at Plymouth. They also lost at Burnley in the given Period, winning just two in seven at Home v Cardiff and Away to Stoke.

The two League Games vs them..we messed up ourselves in November on Bonfire Night.. hopefully we only don't remember remember the negatives from 5th of November. ;) Was fairly even but we were ahead and better in 2nd half but...

A) Their Corner, our GK O'Leary punched over instead of catches and slowing it down for a bit. Sheffield United equalise from resulting corner.
B) We try to chase the game again commendably albeit pressure on us too. Dickie who I've commended elsewhere on here decided to try and play the hero by taking it past 4 players. Inevitably fails, had been only on as a sub 10 mins or a while, injured for 2 months before and stop-start- he get a a red and Sheffield United get the inevitable late winner.

Up at their place 23 Shots and 60% of the ball for us, we dominated decent periods but a last minute equaliser got us the draw.

In some ways I'm a little confident as we've won quite a few "Six Pointers" since Christmas at Home and our Home Form has been very decent with 2 PPG but 1 League Home loss post November 23rd 2024. We've beaten since late January..

*Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Watford, West Brom and **Sunderland at AG all of whom either took playoffs to last day or were in the extended race. Also won 2-0 at Millwall in March and our Away Form generally patchy so that has proven vital.

*Sunderland have been 4th for a while but rotten form since mid March that may impact them.

Coventry look strong but at the same time vs decent sides can be got at- Goals at both ends are possible.

Could be anyone's really.

Thank you yeah, reckon a few neutrals will be rooting for us as we are new in the PL era or would be. We'll do our best.

I guess it's a case of do you fancy yourselves over two games against them? I believe that Sheff Utd have got the potential to shoot themselves in the foot in one of the games because they always seem to so it's making sure you get over the line in the other one.

Good luck to you mate, hope you stuff them.

Championship play-off games are so high stakes now, it usually comes down to both teams playing ultra-low-risk football and hoping that the other team makes a mistake. So, it will usually end up being settled by penalties.

Don't do a Norwich City and get beaten so heavily in the 1st leg that the tie is over - better to accept a home draw than risk defeat by chasing a win, as the pressure will all be on Undead in the 2nd leg.
