Filippo Giraldi - Former Sporting Director

Right, I’ve no idea how our football club is going to be run but I’m going to go with the following diagram I’ve just knocked up. By the way, Randall is outside of this as he’s Chairman.

Prior to this it was presumably CEO and Owner making football decisions in conjunction with Head of Recruitment, whoever that is (and indeed if there is one). That role may even have been Cooper and Scouts / Dane which in itself is a bit circular and lacks accountability.

Now, you’ll have a Sporting Director making decisions in conjunction with CEO having already had agreement with his team which includes recruitment and head coaches.

Strategy from the top, filtering down to appropriate functions. Dane may have had too much to do and dropped a bollock in a few areas and that remains to be seen BUT this structure should help things along.

It’s possible that Dane is expendable and Charnley takes his job or alternatively Charnley has said, this is the structure you need so go out and get a Sporting Director. Charnley may end up as CEO but I think his advice on structure has been taken here and it seems pretty sensible. Maybe everyone keeps their job and the new guy is the missing piece.

I may have just made all that up of course.
It’s a good job Jim Willmer didn’t present this diagram to Brian Clough in 1975.

I personally have no confidence in the squad, think we have got a massive job on getting past 11 points.

We're getting worse by the game 😩

I think we’ve got a lot of pretty good players, but most of the better ones are lightweight and attack minded. We really lack muscle in central defence and midfield

If he did, the great man would probably have screwed it up, and stuffed it up his a*se.

Our problem is too much disruption

For some reason they’ve concluded that the solution to this is a load more disruption

We don’t know what Murphy does on a Tuesday morning, but he’s synonymous with getting Barnsley to the play offs and Forest to the Prem. Charnley and this new guy are synonymous with chaos at Watford and Newcastle

Regardless of the specifics, it’s really negative to have a sense within an organisation that everyone is easily expendable. I’m thinking Lolley, BOXT, Cooper, Dane…the club looks to many like it’s got too big for its boots and is treating loyal people disrespectfully

The overreaction to dips in form from our top brass is ridiculous.

1 win to get us out of the relegation zone and they want to tare everything up. Weak.

If you read / listen to his interview with The Athletic after he was dumped by Watford you would describe his style as the polar opposite to this.
Attending training, in dressing rooms immediately post games, reporting back to owners etc etc

It's all about mid-table...
Maybe I’m an idiot but would auditing the sporting side basically mean accessing the transfers made and the job the manager is doing?

It’s been a long few days keeping up with this shit so apologies if this is a dumb question :ROFLMAO:
It's not dumb mate, just join in with the circus.

Bloody hell. That's all we need.

Every single person like that always ruins the workplace environment with their suspicion of staff and snitching.

So once again the togetherness that was so important in our success last season is on the verge of being torn up and chucked in the bin.

As an actual auditor, I’d be severely pissed off if I wasn’t allowed access to training, dressing room, recruitment offices etc as part of an audit of the sporting function.

Change is definitely afoot but no one has any idea whether than means personnel or structure. I’d recommend we all just wait it out.

Absolutely this - Auditors don‘t just look at „the books“, they look at people, structures, responsibilities, documentation, functionality, in fact, pretty much everything.

There are potentially few negatives to this, going forward, and it may even be that some positives come, if improvements can be identified and implemented?

Don't have an issue with this personally- experience at the level we are at is needed. Whether it means Dane is off I'm not sure, but he was bought in to get us to the level we are at.

Indeed

When I wrote earlier that I don’t understand all the roles of a football club it was a bit tongue in cheek because I sort of do - not everything inside out - but enough to know what a basic operation might look like. Forest didn’t have a proper top level structure in place as it wasn’t really required in the Championship but then all of a sudden we’ve been found lacking and maybe all these changes would have been on the cards even if we were mid-table.

Charnley - Advising (or auditing) the entire operation.

New bloke - Advising (or auditing) the sporting function.

Dane still in place.

Cooper still in place.

This is potentially what has been absolutely required for a very long time. I said it somewhere else, but a CEO doesn’t need and probably shouldn’t have a detailed knowledge of football players. That to me, has been abundantly clear since January 2021 and is the only position at the club that feels weird.

Interesting that Santo's name has been linked today - that's either a missfire with the sporting director or our next manager if results don't pick I think.

Sounds like the job description was written by Vrentsos then!

Its all very well saying this guy went through so many managers at that club (Giraldi and Marinakis) but if the fans wanted the managers out too then it's a totally different story.

I'm sure EM is reading the room here. Until either 50% of Forest fans think we need a new manager, or Coops appeears to be a total lost cause and says something stupid a la Parker, he is relatively safe?
