This is a terrific book for anyone with an interest in the Stasi's. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Although if you want to watch one of the best films to ever come out of Germany, then Lola Rennt, or, in English, Run Lola Run is eighty minutes of cinematic perfection, set around Berlin.

I’ve heard of Run Lola Run 🤔, I’m thinking perhaps the book was recommended to me around the time I was told to watch “The lives of others” that would have been 10 years ago.

I don’t think it was a book, although there may have been a novelisation of the film; it’s an experimental arthouse movie from 1998, written and directed by Tom Tykwer.

And yes, it’s in German, but there are subtitles.

Oh and Franke Potente stars in it. Oh yes.

I’ve just found it on Amazon, I’ll give it a nudge perhaps Thursday evening.👍

Also, „Stasi“ is just a concatenation of Staats-Sicherheit, literally, „State Security“.

In case you wondered.

That, Goodbye Lenin and The Educators are all brilliant.

I managed to get some tickets through the ballot originally and then again today in the resale....the pricing is terrible but as expected.

To fund the tickets we got today we are considering selling our tickets for the last 16 match, No 41, in Frankfurt, which is likely to be Portugal v Another. Can anyone recommend the best way to sell them? Never resold tickets before and would rather not get scammed. cheers

If you have tickets you know longer want there will probably be more opportunities to re sell them on the UEFA website.

Or did you mean you're looking for ways to sell them for a profit?

Julian Nagelsmann has named his squad for the forthcoming international-break friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, and it includes four VfB Stuttgart players; defenders Waldemar Anton and Maximilian Mittelstadt, winger Chris Führich, and striker Deniz Undav (who is on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, and with 14 goals so far this season, is the highest-scoring German forward in the Bundesliga).

As Germany still cannot seem to find a reliable centre-forward, there is an opportunity for especially Undav to grab a perhaps unlikely place at Euro2024.

The two friendlies will undoubtedly feature an experimental German lineup, as Nagelsmann scrabbles desperately around tries to work out his best lineup.

Anyone on here daft enough to buy a new England shirt at those prices?

I quite fancy the „Away“ one, merely as no doubt in June, the locals will be walking around in German colours, so I‘ll have to keep up the British end, as it were.

DAZN has held a ballot of fans, to select Germany‘s greatest-ever XI.

Of course, such things are subjective, but this would be a bloody good side:

For what it’s worth, I’d have gone for Paul Breitner in place of Schweinsteiger, but there you go.

Adidas are floundering as well, because the DFB have agreed to change to Nike from the 2027 season, the American company doubling Adidas bid of €50m.

The natives are not happy; Germany have worn Adidas for 70 years, and the DFB have come under some significant criticism for the change, especially as they are moving to a US company. Puma would have been acceptable, but not Nike. There have been questions raised in parliament, recently Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck spoke (rather eloquently, it has to be said) about the disappointment he felt with the switch.

To be honest, I am absolutely staggered nobody spotted this. In the era of „squad numbers“, no club in Germany will ever field a player wearing „88“ (synonymous with „Heil Hitler“) either. It does not take a great deal of intelligence to have a look at that font, and think „Hang on, we might have a problem here…“
