From what I saw it was only us them and Everton in the race, Everton was already rejected by the player I think and then the deal collapsed with Fulham.
Maybe we got in with a literal last second offer? Probably not tho.

Similar thing happened to former player joey Beauchamp in the 90s, Oxford sold him too West ham so because they had money troubles, and while joey did sign he didn't want to leave Oxford in the first place and on the first day of training was found crying on his car at West hams training ground and couldn't be bothered when he did train. He never got a game for West ham.

Please take this the right way I’m not trying to be clever or have a dig. Try not to say “committed” suicide. That relates back when it was a crime to take your own life, hence “committed”. Died by suicide or similar is better. This might be considered a bit woke etc but the wording can be important to friends and relatives.
