Douglas Luiz

The other one we probably don't need but would be a very good signing is Angel Gomes - he's played deeper more recently I think, has mates in the squad already (Morgs and Elanga) and is apparently available on a cut price as his deal expires.

His closest player profile to what we currently have would be Danilo, obviously a much more polished version with more top level experience. Would be a bit of a luxury signing at this point though, much prefer we double down on a forward

Why does it have to be a case of one or the other? I don't think Luiz has any bearing whatsoever on whether we get a striker. If someone of his level is doable you go all out to get him - the only midfielder that gets close to him currently is Anderson and he's still learning (quickly!).

A loan with an OTB. If he performs better than our current players, we sign him, if he doesn’t, we don’t.

25/26:

Sels, Miguel, Bott*

Aina / RB / Moreira*
Milenkovic / Boly
Murillo
Morato / Abbott*
Williams / Moreno

Luiz / Sangare
Danilo / Dominguez / Yates
MGW / Anderson

Elanga / WGR* / Silva
Wood / FWD / FWD*
CHO / WGR / Sosa

29 players (5 *U21s ) looks about right if we are playing twice a week (Cups / Europe).

Bonus is that if anyone comes in now they have 7-8 months before the new season starts. 1-2 now…4-5 in the summer.

If Dominguez, Silva or Sosa are below the new standard we loan / sell them.

It's great that we've enough money and FFP wriggle room to bring in Luiz and a top draw striker and a wide reinforcement as well...

I guess if a good keeper is available we should sack off Sels and bring them in too.

I think thats what I’m nervous about. Of those 3, Luiz is bottom of my list with PSR wiggle room being what it is

Which is fair, though at the level he is I think he's the most likely to come... and even that is pushing it; probably depends on City's plans.

I agree with others that Luiz is an upgrade on a number of our CMs. But losing one or two of our CMs isn't a season changer (as proven by the Danilo and Sangare injuries) while losing Chris Wood could jeopardise everything we've achieved so far. I think it would be madness not to make another CF our absolute priority.

I think we go all out for a striker rather than a midfielder, Danilo slotting in yesterday like he’d never been away and sangare getting some minutes is why.
Let’s see where we are at the end of the season

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
Am I right in thinking that Luiz is a bit of a free kick expert?

I'm with Matt. Quality player but not sure we need him. Villa fans maintain he needs a 6 beside him to play well.

Florentino Luis would be preferable. A proper number 6. But even then I think we need to concentrate on getting a bloody striker.

I agree with you but is there a striker of equivalent quantity who we are in a chance of signing?

Which five of those would you drop for the European squad?

They’ve already spent about 130m this window. Plus whatever they’ve had to pay Haaland.

I mean we know they take the piss, but I don’t see them spending more. Especially not on a player who will be a back up.
Haven't they now spent as much in this window as Ipswich have in the whole season?

So considering they are already dealing with Juve you would think they would be in a good position to negotiate over Luiz…can only assume they purely want a loan with no obligation and that is their stance.
Just my feeling, but with what Villa have recouped on selling Jhon Duran plus adding in the money they will receive from their European exploits so far, I think they will be looking at re signing Luiz themselves

Midfield options of Sangare, Luiz, Yates, Dominguez, Danilo, MGW and Elliot Anderson is Champions League material.

Would love to see Luiz here on loan in a swap for JWP. I think that would step Forest up to another level. He basically brought Villa up to that with his performances last season.

Like most people I think back-up striker is by far the priority. If we can’t get a Wissa-level forward, I’d go for one of the better Champo ones - we’d surely find someone happy to be a Premier league squad player, with a chance to break into the team

On PSR my guess is the club can only afford one player. If they’ve ‘only’ gone to £22m for Wissa that might be the total transfer budget available.

That doesn't make sense given we apparently had around £30m that we didn't spend in the summer, and we can surely bank on more money from our final PL position than we were expecting.
