Dexter Blackstock / Greg Halford

Ok, I know he had a bad spell last season, but surely he is a better option than Halford up front?

All the other strikers confidence must be absolutely shot but Davies choosing to play another player out of position rather than them.

Is Henderson injured?

If Blackstock could win as many headers or hold the ball and lay it off as well as Halford he'd play. He's not a good finisher but he does chase more than Halford which is what we lacked in the first half today... they were allowed to play the ball out to midfield a bit too easily.

Henderson is far better than both of them, need him back asap.

Not every clubs needs a tall target man, just a player to hold it up and Mackie and Cox both do that well.
Henderson is far better upfront than Halford. Scored a few and knows where he should be.
Halford is the defender you bring on if you're desperate at the end.

With our players tenancy to hoof it upfront , how could Cox or Mackie hold it up when they will get dominated in the air by defenders. Our players are not the most technically gifted and skilled that they will keep it on the ground with their one touch football. Nothing sticks in the final 3rd when it comes down to it.

The way we play we need a complete forward a Drogba player, yes we are direct but we are not a hoofing team, Bayern are direct and hoof but I hear nothing about them. The problem with Halford is that he is not mobile enough or quick enough I would seriously play Miller in this formation with Abdoun and Reid up front the problem forest are having is that wedo get enough players in the box we need Lansbury and Majewski to be in there.

Not just to be biased because Halford's one of my favourite players, but he offers so much more than what Dexter does, because he doesn't just have the attacking mentality, he can work in other areas when he's on the pitch too despite being up front.

Possibly BD is showing Fawaz that we need another striker before the deadline by playing Halford out of position. Just a thought.

I kind of thought that.. Not like Billy to spite himself to make a point

I don't think Miller can moan if he's dropped from the bench for another striker - he's had a fair few chances now.

For me he's rewarding Halford for good displays in previous games. No better way to demotivate a squad than having someone do a great job then dropping them without good reason.

Other managers have done if before. I think it shows what BD thinks of the other 'fit' strikers he has available. I still think we desperately need a striker who scores every other game to challenge for the top two. I know Blackburn won't sell him and they would want far more than we could afford but I would love Jordan Rhodes at Forest.

Don't get me wrong Alf I like Halford but I prefer him at the centre of defence. I think he's been a bit unlucky really with being shunted about. Can't fault his effort one bit.

With regards to demotivating the squad I see your point. On the flip side I wonder what the so called strikers we have think of a defensive player playing in front of them. I think this highlights how poor the back up strikers are. If we lose Henderson, Cox or Mackie to long tern injuries I think we will struggle unless we sign a top class striker.

Halford aint a striker he does a job but surely hes makeshift playong there?

Yea I'm also worried about the impact on the other strikers of billy choosing Halford over them. I mean come on, I know He likes a big man up front, but in Hendersons absence, he could still play miller or blackstock. If we're gonna do anything this season really need to sort out the strikeforce

The way I see it too. We wont get promoted playing people like Halford up front.
I like him a lot and he does a job but we are falling short in the striker department. In my opinion, Hendo is our best striker and he isn't really up to scratch if we are going to be honest.

Personally, I think Halford is shit striker. Good player. Shit striker.

Whereas Dex is good striker. He won't score loads but he does link up well, plus, as has been mentioned on other threads, Dex scores almost all his goals from crosses so now we have width we could see him start to do well again.

Exactly what I thought today. Quite a lot of crosses came in and all they needed was a flick type header, which our players weren't getting on the end of. After Dex's impressive cameo the other day he should've at least been in the squad.

Not going to moan too much as we have had a great start. But anyone who is surprised by the lack of goals contributed by our strikers is in denial.
Oh and Henderson coming back will make minimal difference. We simply lack the type of striker that only participation in a game is to put the ball in the net.

Does anybody have a striker who only does that? That role is defunct now. At the very least, every forward is expected to chase and chase all game. Look at Torres, Suarez, Benteke, Van Persie. They're always on the move and always chasing defenders down trying to win the ball.

Players like Rhodes, Austin and Hooper are the same, they work their bollocks off but are just better finishers than the players we have currently.
