Darlow and Lascelles targeted

If you think about it logically, it makes sense what Pearce has done. It was quite obvious that if we failed to get promotion this season Darlow, Lascelles and Lansbury would be out. All three are either good enough or have enough potential to play in the prem, all have received prem interest and would leave next summer given the chance. So, by selling them on now, we get the additional funds to help mount a stronger promotion push, and still get to keep the two players for the rest of the season.

Also, I do think we overrated both players and how much they should be worth. We often mock Derby fans for putting a £10 million+ price tag on Will Hughes, yet some are making out Lascelles is worth £10 million on his own, after one halfway decent season in the Championship compared to Hughes who has been performing well for about 2/3 years now. In my opinion I think that Lansbury is the only player worth over 5 million in our entire squad. He's the only player that I really think 'belongs' in the premier league and is playing at a lower level than he should be.

Therefore, I think that overall it is a good bit of buisness, but I just hope the funds are spent wisely.

Sorry, makes no sense to me. Don't sell and the players stay here for another season and play their arses off to earn a move, their value goes up (esp with England's CB search on) so we then get a season out of them proper, not on loan and half focussed, and play the percentages of getting more money too.

The only reasons to do it now it 1) we're skint; 2) we've other players coming in which we need to push for now for whatever reason; 3) one or both have serious long term fitness concerns.

But for me this is not a sensible way to get maximum value on the players. I'm hoping there's far more to this than we are aware of though and have faith in Pearce doing the right thing.

Fawaz could have bought Real Madrid... Everyone. He should sell his cars and not our best players! He's a fumbling mess of an owner. I don't care what anyone says, he couldnt run a bath let alone a football club.

Stuart Pearce confirms that Darlow and Lascelles were sold against his advice. #nffc 'I thought we could have pushed for a higher figure'. ffs

If that's true then it's worrying

Really starting to think that fawaz is far to power hungry

Maybe the writing was on the wall regarding lascelles with fox playing centre half and 2 more players being signed into that position,,5-6 centre halves are too many..darlow? have we just got the 2 goalkeepers now?.
Imo pretty short sighted indeed.

Well, he is running a football club. One that's extremely well set to make a push this year.

Anyone else disappointed with Lascelles comments when signing for Newcastle "big step up to a club with lots of fans and history "?

It's obligatory when moving (especially if you're moving upwards in the food chain i.e. from Champ to Prem) to describe your new paylords as being a big club with great fans, great tradition and great history.
All standard fayre for Transfer Bingo.
Look at it from the other side. If you were a Geordie fan, and Lascelles wasn't blowing smoke up your arse in that way, you'd feel a little underwhelmed maybe?

I was. Think they both came across as a bit 'Billy Big Biscuits' and should have been very careful about what they said, but footballers tend not to be the brightest do they?

I'd love to know what 'History' Lascelles is referring to exactly? Pre-1955!?!

Same standard soundbytes. Geordie slags aren't a patch on Nottm's finest. Any young lad thinking it's a step up will think different when they look down to see their cock covered in kebab juice and chip fat.

Unfortunately I disagree with this. It's also a much softer accent to hear offering you a brew than some bird with a thick north Nottinghamshire accent. " Dya wanta brew, al av one mekkin fo ya on me way fo dump"

Don't be too harsh. They are bound to say things like that. And Newcastle are fairly well established in the PL with a huge fanbaseit's not like they joined Burnley or somewhere like that.

Sounds like a story we'll see on the POF thread in a few days or weeks.
