If you think about it logically, it makes sense what Pearce has done. It was quite obvious that if we failed to get promotion this season Darlow, Lascelles and Lansbury would be out. All three are either good enough or have enough potential to play in the prem, all have received prem interest and would leave next summer given the chance. So, by selling them on now, we get the additional funds to help mount a stronger promotion push, and still get to keep the two players for the rest of the season.
Also, I do think we overrated both players and how much they should be worth. We often mock Derby fans for putting a £10 million+ price tag on Will Hughes, yet some are making out Lascelles is worth £10 million on his own, after one halfway decent season in the Championship compared to Hughes who has been performing well for about 2/3 years now. In my opinion I think that Lansbury is the only player worth over 5 million in our entire squad. He's the only player that I really think 'belongs' in the premier league and is playing at a lower level than he should be.
Therefore, I think that overall it is a good bit of buisness, but I just hope the funds are spent wisely.
Sorry, makes no sense to me. Don't sell and the players stay here for another season and play their arses off to earn a move, their value goes up (esp with England's CB search on) so we then get a season out of them proper, not on loan and half focussed, and play the percentages of getting more money too.
The only reasons to do it now it 1) we're skint; 2) we've other players coming in which we need to push for now for whatever reason; 3) one or both have serious long term fitness concerns.
But for me this is not a sensible way to get maximum value on the players. I'm hoping there's far more to this than we are aware of though and have faith in Pearce doing the right thing.
