Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira

With Danilo you sacrifice some protection of the defence but gain a whole lot of creativity in transition. Maybe not the go to for every game but it gives us a completely different dynamic, especially when we're setting up in a back 5

One thing I’ve always disliked about Danilo’s game is his aerial duels; he f***ing sucks. Kid couldn’t win a header playing in the U11s since we bought him; but Saturday I noticed he’d been clearly working on how to jump and contest aerially both safely and competitively. He even won a couple!

I thought he was brilliant at times on Saturday considering his lack of match fitness. Give it a handful of games and we'll see him back to full strength. Just having his name back in the starting line up gave everyone a lift.

One of my favourite bits was his little point to Fast Tony just before the Chris Wood tap in in the second half.

Great presence of mind.

Here comes the controversial post again...

I reckon we sell Danilo in summer.

We paid £16m for him, 6 year contract, so £10m left to pay-off on the books. A sale around the £30m mark which I think is possible nets us £20m on the books.

Not bad for a player who has been shunted down to 4th (at best) in the pecking order of CMs and has been injured for most of the season.

At this point he's possibly more likely to go than Sangare, as even though Sangare is even further down the pecking order, the'res almost zero chance of a +ve net sale on the books with him. Sangare will just become that 4th choice that doesn't see much game-time apart from cups.

We'll use that £20m to put towards a new CM in the Sangare/Yates mould, just an upgrade of both combined, and that'll leave us with that new chap, Yates and Sangare as deeper CMs and Anderson, Dominguez and MGW as the more mobile, box-to-box options.

Yeah I can see this happening. Probably a wise move. Got to give him credit though, I thought that was his best game for us since May 2023. We absolutely do need a big upgrade in the middle though, and someone will have to make way. We have to keep possession better and stop these turnovers under pressure, it's cost us many points. I'm not talking about changing our style, just evolving it a bit and giving us more options to cycle the ball when we need to take a breather and make the other team do the work.

Danilo was close to being motm last night tho I thought. Along with Dom & Ando.

Having seen how last night played out Maxi I think Sangare's time here is done. He didn't even trust him to come on for 20 mins in a game which was made for a player in that position.

We might still see Danilo go as you've outlined but it will be him moving on along with Sangare jettisoned. I don't see how Sangare stays ahead of Danilo tbh.

I understand the thought process and I think it may happen, but I hope not.

I think it would be short sighted by the club too. £20M profit to put towards an upgrade that we would realistically ha e to be paying £45M plus, with no certainty they would suit the club or come good - Sangare being the prime example.

I would distance ourselves from that risk. He is young, still developing and just returned from an awful injury. Next season would be better placed to cast a more informed position and I doubt his profit would diminish, like the opposite.

Danilo deserves more time mostly due to his age, I feel we can get another level out of him. He still has a lot to work on positionally but with time on his side i'd be reluctant to move him on yet. Sangare will be 28 this year, we're just going to have to cut our losses there

I'm a bit confused by all the positivity around his performance last night, I honestly thought he was chuff - gave the ball away a number of times, still a bit weak (understandably) in the tackle and a few completely missed passes. I really don't see what he brings in his post injury performances. Not trying to be divisive, just don't get what he is or what he does.

I wouldn't describe it as chuff, but I didn't really see anything that stood out. Fairly anonymous I thought, and miles behind Anderson in terms of contribution.
