Cyrus Christie

no thanks to christie being back next season , his wages will be high and he simply isn't good enough to justify it.

Christie hasn't done enough for me to warrant another year here considering he's on loan.

Not against him staying, but a few things would have to happen for it to be worthwhile:
1) Jenkinson moved on
2) Richardson/Gabriel deemed not ready so loaned out again.
3) Another good right back identified, potentially one that can play RCB or right midfield too, who would at least start the season ahead of Christie.

OK as a backup, if wages aren't a problem. I certainly wouldn't want us to rely on him if we're thinking we can challenge top six next year.

Given that Richardson can't get a game for Forest Green Rovers at the moment, I'd say he's a long way off being ready to play in the Championship. Gabriel should be involved after a good loan spell at Blackpool though.

I don't think Jenkinson being here or not should sway the clubs thinking when it comes to whether or not we should sign another right back. Much like Zach Clough and Hefele, Jenkinson isn't really a genuine option to be relied upon and is just a financial liability to the club.

Given that money is going to be tight next season, I'd rather sign Christie on a free and have him compete with Gabriel for that right back spot than spend money on a new right back. Doing so will enable us to focus what money we have elsewhere.

Serious question - and nothing personal - but have you ever posted anything even remotely positive on here?

you see the posts you want to see, not my issue. if you can't discuss posts like a rational person and choose only to ridicule and criticise when there are other posts stating why we shouldn't sign christie.

Unless we’re going to do something really revolutionary and sign someone like Josh Emmanuel from Hull (although the kid isn’t getting many minutes recently?) then agree with this 100%.

weren't we linked to a right back that our greek overlord wants to send our way the same way cafu was done last summer ? he scored 1 and assisted 1 on international duty a week back.

I think Chrisitie has been pretty good overall and in recent weeks has been a standout. Only 4 teams in this division have conceded fewer goals than us this season and that's not all down to Joe Worrall, as much as people would like to portray it as such.

Keep Christie as he's evidently a decent full back at this level and is the only member of our defence who has been consistently available every week. We have the 5th best defence in the division so it's not something that should be torn up lightly if our aim is to build upon what we have. Then bring back one of the Academy lads to act as understudy and take their chance if it comes.

A new left back is all we really need at the back and Hughton's focus should be on improving the goals scored column.

I wasn't particularly referencing your attitude towards Christie, it was a general observation and definitely with no "ridicule" contained within it.

I fail to see what is not "rational" about me stating that my serious question wasn't personal.

It's all down to money for me , He is a decent RB and I would be happy to have him for another season but it's down too his wages, I have no idea how much he is on but would want to keep his wages at a reasonable level and not be stung by his wages.
I suppose its down to him as well , No reason why he can't take a drop in wages if he wanted to, With maybe a few juicy Bonuses like top six finish and clean sheets etc etc.

Would you swap Jenkinson for Christie? You’d imagine the wage demands are pretty similar.

Pre-COVID Christie's wage demands were probably similar. Out of contract post-COVID? Most out of contract players won't be able to make the kind of demands they did before unless a Premier League or parachute payment club comes knocking (which is probably unlikely in Christie's case).

Fulham get relegated, they will probably want him back.

In a heartbeat despite my reservations about Christie.

But it's moot, as Jenkinson isn't going anywhere.

Cyrus Christie still sounds like someone on death row in an Alabama jail for killing and eating their pappy.

He started the season looking like a tired 40 year old PE teacher, by Christmas he looked more his age, but still like an upset PE teacher, now he actually looks like a footballer...I guess that grim Derby stink takes a while to wash off.

Sign him up CH.

He's made me eat my words. Well played Cyrus. :tophat:

He's cut out a lot of the mistakes which led to goals, probably the fact our midfield is a lot better now helps with that as well...

Never been against Christie as such, just frustrated with some of the basic early season errors inhibiting what little forward momentum we were creating.

Looks a different player now, confidence has flowered to the point we're now nutmegging players.

i like him, he's a standout player currently & his consistency of performance means Id be happy to see him in a Forest shirt next season. Proved he has the all round game.

I thought he was poor at the first part of the season, but his errors were less costly than Figs' errors. Both have improved as the season has progressed, and our goals conceded score says a lot about how good we're doing defensively overall. I'd be happy enough signing Christie at the end of the season, as long as we're not paying too much in wages. He's steady and unspectacular. I feel we probably could do better, but we certainly have areas of the pitch that need addressing more urgently. He should sign and fit in seamlessly, allowing us to focus on the real problem areas.
