We need a 20-goals a season striker... he might cost more than £25k a week in wages, but if we don't score enough goals, the cost will be £160 million in lost Prem/Media largesse.

Chris Wood has 1 year left and is 32. Taiwo Awoniyi is injury prone and there is a possibility of a sale to be done
Top Striker has to be Priority
What do you do with Taiwo and Wood while the top striker plays? That's far too much squad value sitting on the bench.

Next summer I might agree.

£25k per week equates to £1.3 million per year.
If he joins on (say) a 3 year deal thats nearly £4 million.
Add on a golden hello, say £4 million (like we paid to Lingard) and he would cost us £8 million.
And after seeing his performances so far in the european championships I'm really not sure he is good enough.
Championship is the right place for him.
And while I'm at it, it shows the way football is out of control when we talk so cheaply about paying someone £25k per week as if it is peanuts.
It's not right!
A bunch of assumption in there captain. You and I have no idea how much he will earn per week or get as a signing on fee, it is a totally pointless exercise. Not sure why you want to begrudge someone like Adams, who has literally worked his way up from part time to international level, earning what he can from the game when there are youth team players pocketing well in excess of £25k a week.
Yeah, if he was an unknown Brazilian who scored that many in their second division people would be getting giddy and checking flightscanner for him turning up.

And what are we buying one with? Magic beans? Reports suggest we need to raise £20m to avoid a PSR breach, never mind filling holes in the rest of the squad.

3 players scored 20+ league goals last season. Haaland, Palmer and Isaak. The next two realistic type who we could go for (not the players exactly but that 'type') are Watkins who scored 19 but cost Villa £28m 4 seasons ago and Solanke who for the first time in his career has scored more than 6 goals in a Premier League season and cost them £20m some 6 seasons ago.

I'd love to see Forest with a Watkins/Solanke type (I think Awoniyi can be that but obviously injuries have plagued him at Forest) but we have to be realistic. Awoniyi and Wood are both double digit Premier League strikers and will cost well in excess of £30m to improve. While we have them we need a third choice to come on, press, hold up play, run the channels and score the odd goal, a role which Adams can fill. Judging off his Scotland performances is harsh, so far he was upfront by himself against Rudiger and Tah and then Schar, Akanji and Rodriguez. Not saying it gets much easier in the Prem but ****in'ell lets give him a little slack, he wasn't up against a bunch of postmen...

Both Watkins and Solanke would cost in excess of £50m now. We don't have that sort of money. We most definitely don't have money for a first choice striker unless Taiwo gets sold.

Plenty of assumptions in there. But in terms of PSR Adams is the better option.

Like the lad who we signed from Sporting in January who barely got a kick? If you are trying to see out a game and you need to make some subs, 99% of Premier League managers will prefer the guy with more experience coming on with 10/15min to go then an 18-21 year old. And just to be clear, Jimenez went from Benfica to Wolves for 38m Euros and Mitrovic went from Newcastle to Fulham for 25m Euros. We already have that type of player in Awoniyi, we also have a double digit striker in Wood as a backup, unless one of those leaves we haven't the budget to go drop 30-40m on a striker.
Awoniyi is more than a bit of question mark though, if it's a chronic groin injury. It was like he didn't exist last season.

As for Wood, he's just got married and is 33 is December. Father time is rapidly approaching (if it hasn't already). I'm grateful for the goals he chipped in with last season that kept us up, but I don't expect a repeat next year.

It feels like the right time to find our next long-term goalscorer, to me at least. After dropping 35m quid on Sangare last summer, I'm not ruling anything out.

Which is the point I am getting at. They are £50m+ players now, but even when they brought them when both were relatively unproven they cost a significant amount.

With Awoniyi, before he came to Forest he kept pretty much injury free and played a lot for Union. Making an assumption here but I think Forest rushed him back after his injury and was never right. I hope the extended time off will see him be injury free this season.

With Wood, his game doesn't rely on pace, so not sure father time will affect him too much.

I'd love us to go out and blow big money on a top striker if it is feasible. But financially it doesn't appear so and with how the squad is made up, I don't see Awoniyi playing second fiddle and Wood being third choice either. The only way I see it working is if Awoniyi is sold and someone is brought in using that money to replace him, but good luck to whomever sells him and he scores 20 a season at a Chelsea for example.

It's like a re-run of the Jack hobbs situation where Forest not only rushed him back while he was suffering a bas=ck injury, they had him operated on for an ankle injury by some YTS trainee, and the pins holding the plates in place in his ankle/lower leg fell out.

Couldn’t disagree more.
We haven’t got a bottomless transfer pot.
Thought he played well against a decent Swiss side.
On a free it’s a no brainer - save big money for other targets.

Though all probably immaterial - he’ll get better offers elsewhere.

Scotland could have stuck Davros up front, and the evil creator of the Daleks would have been more mobile than Che Adams.

When Awoniyi gets injured, we will need a player who can score the odd goal, not a traffic cone.

If Awoniyi gets sold and we replace him with an upgrade or similar quality perhaps we can afford just a body up front but then there were rumours of getting Brereton.

for a limited footballer like himself, i would expect che adams to take the easy million dollar route to the saudi empire assuming the interest from the saudis are real.
