He doesn't save many does he? Cost us the game again with the second goal. What's his excuse this week?

Re: Brice Samba - „Magic Hands“

The side can't string 2 passes together, the manager is clueless and our strikers are 31 and 35 years old. Def Samba's fault we lost though.

Shouldn’t have let that in but for both goals the defence has gone walkies.

Also thought their keeper could have saved our goal.

Its not just his you are completely correct but you'd expect a top championship keeper to save the second.

Hoots probably gave him a tactical team talk before the game.

Have you ever played in goal?

Has anyone a clip of the goals? Can't find them anywhere at the mo?

On Sky Sports site now.

I think he should have kept the second out. Bournemouth keeper should have kept McKenna's out too.

Samba is more than good enough for where we want to be

He could've done better with their second goal though

Keepers are amongst the easiest to judge..
For me they are either OK or I get a chronic anxiety about them based on how they handle themselves over period of games.

Brice is in the former category. Hes not perfect-hes a good but not super shot stopper but then he's small by modern standards. What he does do is own his. area and his distribution is superb. Overall he's plenty good enough for us, I feel pretty comfortable with him in net and theres certainly far more pressing problems facing the squad at present.

It is a shame we don't utilise his distribution more. He beats the press so many times with his switches to the fullbacks. I still think he is our best passer of the ball which is mad.

Cheers mate, just been watching it a few times over.

Shocking keeping. Folk will pick tactics & Hughton apart all night long, but the single biggest reason we walked away without a point is down to Samba today for me.

Completely agree Rzar-what I also like is he’s really brave and unflustered with the ball at his feet. His mistakes when passing are rare and I think that breeds confidence in him amongst the outfield guys just in the same way a great save or stop does.

And that’s the lot of a manager….

Aye. It just makes me chuckle. There's always that debate about player quality Vs managerial capability, but stick DDV or Beasant in net and we come away with a point at least.

Horvath's mistake the other night wasn't encouraging either, but Samba's not really looked consistently great since Lamouchi's early-mid days either IMO. And then I think he benefitted from an absolute fuckload of protection.

It's a tricky dilemma.

I think we have brought in Horvath on a free transfer, and have retained Jordan smith.
Don't be surprised if Samba is being lined up for sale.
As a former keeper myself I think Samba is inconsistent and inconsistency unsettles defenders and motivates opposition attackers.

He's not as solid as he was when he first arrived, but still more than capable. Not sure what's going on but seems to have lost a bit of confidence.

Smith is nowhere near first team material, and Hovath I have no idea about but will probably end up being this season's Diallo.

Well he won’t, cos he’s already played a game for us.

Re Brice, he should have stopped that second earlier from the highlights but it looks like he felt Billing was going across the goal rather than to his right, so went the wrong way and couldn’t get his legs across to make the save.

Given that Billings should have been tracked to stop the shot, it’s reasonable to assume that he was going to play it square. I probably would have done the same thing in goal.

McKenna seems to have a bit of a rant at Samba after the second goal. his defence is losing confidence in him.

Not only was he at fault for their second goal yesterday but seemed to have a bit of an attitude with Gabriel from the off. Hope he sorts out whatever is going on soon because, usually, once you drop a keeper theres no going back.

I thought both keepers were shit yesterday, both made a cock up resulting in goals.

Re: Brice Samba - „Magic Hands“

a new keeper should have motivate him more but if anything , samba has regressed this season , has been responsible for conceeding soft goals in the last 2 game , 3 if you count the last pre-season game before covid disrupted our pre-season preparation. It could be worst , bournemouth goal that was disallowed was almost a carbon copy of the 2nd that samba somehow let in. being the last line of defence , that was just terrible keeping.

That is a bit harsh on the Bournemouth keeper.
He should have stopped our goal but to offset that he did make several blinding saves.
