Many business owners‘ wealth is actually tied to the businesses they own. Just because a business is „worth £10m“, it doesn’t mean the director or owner has £10m cash in the bank.

It’s common for them to use the value of the equity in a business as collateral for a loan to buy a football club, then load the loan debt back onto the balance sheet - that’s what the Glazers did with Man. United.

Maybe Hardy borrowed against his stake in Paragon, and if that’s gone tits-up, there’s his loan-guarantee down the swannee, so maybe the Banks are worried.
