The last 30 seconds...

That it absolutely f***ing brilliant, thanks for posting.

All the way through Clough just oozes strength and brilliance.

What a f***ing man. What a man. In a very hungover state I now feel like running a marathon having just listened to him! Have it!!

Do you know something? I was blessed to be able to watch Forest under Clough. We had great players before Clough of course. He got the likes of O'Neill, Woodcock, Anderson, Robertson, Bowyer etc (who were here already) to have complete belief in themselves. Can anyone think of another manager today who we would imagine could do a job like Clough did? And I don't mean some arse like Mourinho who seems just to solve problems by buying every footballer in the world. Under Clough, many fans did not have favourites amongst the players - we treated them all as heroes. Just a thought.

This. A million times this.

We were a team.

Another thought - was he (with Taylor's help) one of the best at identifying a new position for a player to play where he'd be better than the one he was playing in. Robertson being the best example, but Burns too (that was Taylor's call I believe wheras Robertson Clough's) and reading that Deep Into the Forest book I saw it mentioned that Webb had played up front and wide right before coming to Forest but Clough saw him as a goalscoring midfielder. Colin Barrett didn't play left-back before coming to Forest I think? Maybe Garry Parker never played left wing?

I suppose there are other Forest players like Stone (CM to RW) or Bart-Williams who were put into new positions and did well after Clough's time. But he's got to be up there. Wenger converted Henry of course, although he'd been played up front in France too so it was a conversion back to what he knew I suppose (although Robbo did play left midfield for Scotland Youth teams he said).

In the modern game, I don't make the comparison lightly, John Robertson was as talented, had the same devastating vision and ability to pin point a pass, as the Italian Andrea Pirlo, he was that good !.

No one should underestimate the part Frank Clarke had in Robbo's career. Having rock steady uncle Frank covering behind him gave Robbo the freedom to develop his massive skills. Another Clough and Taylor master signing

Sorry for being a pedant OMR, but Cloughie brought Frank to Forest before PT arrived.

If you look at his twatter account he appears to support Liverpool!?
Robbo must've been (extremely) good then!

Ex-Leeds player Johnny Giles really praises him on this page though (and I know Forest trainer Jimmy Gordon said he even thought he had something extra over Matthews and Finney):
https://books.google.co.uk/books?id...les john robertson great and the good&f=false

It's definitely a bit puzzling that he didn't score points in the voting for the Ballon d'Or at all. Or win Forest's Player of the Year Award (generally nobody appreciated him more or rated him higher than Forest fans).

Must've been extremely good???
Sorry KOC but there simply aren't enough superlatives in the English language to describe Robbo!
Quite simply the best footballer I have ever had the privilege to watch.
Best summed up by a league game at Coventry's old Highfield Road stadium where they queued up to try to stop him - never seen so many yellow cards dished out.

Redemption

One less gobshite...
As an English boy, I sort-of supported Scotland for a year or two entirely as a result of Robbo and wore the navy jersey interchangeably with my Forest kits.

When keeping the Old Greyhound Pub in Aslockton and turning out for the local side, he was voted Player of the Year, some small consolation.
