The term "club legend" is used too easily nowadays.

But for John Robertson, it is entirely appropriate.

He was an absolute genius with a football. We'd not have won the Big Cup twice without him.

He was brilliant, simply the best & in my view THE best Forest player I have ever seen ... (been going since 1967/68 season)

One pin-point cross, one perfect grubber. Legend.

Robbo was/is a legend. Definately the best winger to wear a Forest shirt.
I met Danny Thomas once (ex Tottenham right back) and he admitted he hated playing against Robbo, and to matters worse Cloughie just kept shouting all match "give it Robbo"

...and not forgetting Robbo's grubby 'suede dessert boots' he used to wear with his suit..:congored:

Best crosser of the ball I've ever seen. Had an amazing left foot but was also very good on his right, too.

Remember going to my first game as an 8 year old and hearing "skin him Robbo" I was quite alarmed and had to ask my Dad if he was going to actually "skin him"?

I thought there was a lack of a John Robertson compilation available (lack of Forest player compilations in general really) so I've done a quick one and I thought rather than starting a new thread that bumping this one would be the best idea:

That piece was written seven years ago. There is a better consideration of his abilities in a book published last year.

Scored the most significant goal and played the most significant assist in the clubs history. No player has or ever will touch his legendary status at the club.

Lucky enough to see throughout the 70s and will always be my favourite Red. Could take a mean
penalty as well....

As well as Robbo we saw Martin, Viv and Tony all develope from immature young players into being the aristocracy of Europe. What times they were

Robbo had an absolute wand of a left foot.

He was truly a magician.

His right foot wasn't bad either.

He used the left foot to float over tantalising crosses and the right to lash 30-yarders in off the underside of the bar or slot home penalties. He must have had one of the best ever success rates from the spot.

Watching this video has made me realise just how good he was with his right foot too. He seemed to push the ball with his right then nip it away from the foolish defender with his left. Quite an unusual style.

Tried checking online - apparently Le Tissier scored 49 out of 50 penalties (Mark Crossley spoiling his perfect record!) while Robbo scored 101 out of 103.
