I'd like Mila Kunis to turn up topless with a crate of Krombacher in her hand and willy snogs on the mind.

Difference being if Samba comes of his line a bit more it may save us a goal here and their - I know I should think better than to post football related content on a football forum very silly of me.

Re: Brice Samba - „Magic Hands“

When I was younger we used to look at penalties with a critical eye and, after many experiments, if the penalty is correctly taken, the keeper has no chance.

Most saves are to rather pathetic penalties which deserve to be saved and the rest are at a perfect height for the goalie who guesses right.

The perfect penalties which should be practiced, are high into the corners. It takes guts to put the kick into the top half of the goal because a miscalculation sends it over the bar.

I have spoken. Personally I was rubbish at this method, but don't do as I do, do as I say.

Right down the middle, preferably about halfway up, either dinked like a Panenka or hit with pace. The keeper is usually going to dive one way and the extra height makes it harder to kick it when he realises.

Top corners are likely to miss - either wide or over - but the keeper will have no chance at saving it.

I think the point is, we can all pick faults with any players game, but if they didn’t have these faults it likely they wouldn’t be plugging away for a midtable championship team.

Not sure I agree with this idea that he doesn’t come for crosses, I’d actually say it is part of his game that has grown since he first joined and is one of the better ‘keepers in the league at doing it.

Samba is actually very quick off his line and comes for a lot of crosses.

People need to watch a keeper that is actually rooted to his line and they will see how many Samba actually comes for.

Indeed. The comparison with Smith or Pantilimon is startling, he really does command the area and come for things - and usually gets them.

He is the fastest keeper I have seen at dealing with those low driven crosses across the 6 yard box. He always judges them well and is very quick off his line.

You see it all the time, players in dangerous positions and the ball ends up in Samba's stomach from his judging the cross well. Looks easy but not many do it better than he does.

Not bad to say he doesn't come off his line much

We spent a year watching Pantillimon, we all know the difference!

I would like him to be a little more commanding when it comes to coming off his line and claiming crosses is what I said in my post I am not sure how that translates into he does not come off his line much?

In fact pretty sure it just means be a little more commanding when coming off your line when claiming crosses.

Derby away last year would be an example of him not commanding his box and making an absolute mess of claiming a ball which costs us a goal -
as I said in my post he is one of the best keepers in the division but pretty sure he would like to play at a higher level in my view if he does he needs to command his box better.

Doesnt seem to be a keeper who gambles on crosses, I have no problem with that, he clearly backs himself on his line & its working. Thought he was word perfect on crosses last night, took everything in his range.

I don't think enoughs made about his distribution though, its f***ing exceptional. Right up there with the best I've seen over any league. Given how important its become in the role, I think he;ll be sought after in the summer.

That was the second half. Have a look at him in the first half on their long throws. Wasn't interested, very frustrating when the throw was reaching the edge of the 6 yard box. Someone must have had a word at half time as there was an obvious difference.

He's got the ability, just needs a bit more confidence.

True. That quick boot out to knockers on the right wing in the second half was sublime.

I don't see him any worse than the bottom half Prem starters. IMO we've done well to keep him this long. A cracking find, one of the best signings in recent seasons.

His record on penalties is his only real weakness. He seems to have the rest - decision making, shot stopping from long and short range, distribution, command of his area, confidence in the back line...

Re: Brice Samba - „Magic Hands“

We really are scraping the barrel if we are talking about his record at saving penalties... really, no keeper should ever save a penalty as all the advantages are to the taker, not the keeper. If they save any just count it as a bonus, but I am pretty sure he has saved at least two since being here?

Also the reason he didn’t come for crosses in the first half is because the wind was blowing in that direction, just look at some of the shots, the ball was all over the place. I trust Samba’s judgement on whether he thinks he can get to the ball, as when he does he typically bosses it.

Lastly highlighting the Derby game from last year, the exception doesn’t prove the rule. For that one cock up there are multiple examples (even from last night) of him commanding his area.

I can can give you multiple examples of him not commanding his area I merely gave one example Derby away of this as it is not my wish to hammer the poor guy why would I he is a great keeper.

I think you have misunderstood my point as I think he is one of the best keepers in the Championship. I just think his game would be improved if he commanded his box more.

Football is a game of opinion but I think we all agree if Samba did not have development needs he would be playing at higher level aleady and for me his box presence is a development need based on
what I have seen since watching him.

Others may feel differently after all football is a game of opinion thats part of the appeal of the game hence all the post match debates and phone in shows that are so popular.

I think the move from where Samba was to where he is now shows how good he is and that perhaps other signings should be given time to adapt rather than deemed "shit" and flogged 3 games later.

Helps to be slightly nuts as a keeper and a bit of a character. Samba has that. I’m just happy with a competent keeper to be honest as we have had some who make me literally shit myself. But samba is really good. Just hope we can keep the good nucleus we have and build on it for once.

He's a good goalkeeper and a really likeable character. Does help that, when you don't just feel obliged to like them.

Agree with all of that except him bing snapped up in the summer. I really like him, but he is in the "quirky" mould of keeper-hes eccentric, there's a lot of one handed catches and stops and I think the dips in form are probably related to concentration. I think the positives outweigh the negatives but I would think clubs at the top level would see him as a bit risky and go out and look for the 6 foot 5 Scandinavian Brick shit house that's the industry standard these days.

...All the better for us....
