Re: Brice Samba - „Magic Hands“

Its a tight run thing between him, Marco polo pascolo & the clown that kicked the coffee cup instead of the ball as the worst keeper we've had

The traffic cone was worse than all of those though.

Worst Forest keepers of the 2000s?

1. Stephen Henderson - Traffic Cone
2. Barry Roche - Coffee Cup
3. Muric - City's fifth choice

Honourable mentions to Vlad and Pedersen.

Genuinely don't remember Vlad being bad at all, perhaps a product of the time. Pants gets a lot of shit as well despite his record.

Neither of them are the worst keepers going at this level. I remember De Vries getting absolute pelters despite being fantastic.

I'll probably repeat this post in 3 years talking about Samba.

Muric is one of the worst keepers I've seen in a Forest shirt

Hard to believe he was so highly rated by City, having watched him play for us. Whenever he was in goal I was terrified whenever the opposition got even remotely close to our penalty box. Thank goodness we signed Brice Samba!

Pants was good until he had to think who to give the ball to...then he just held onto it for dear life ...never got so angry with a keeper in all my years of watching live football.

Vladimir was very decent, his back 4 was generally appalling.

There’s an obsession with colossal keepers these days and he’s got a modicum of talent. I suspect he’s a confident guy and when you add all of that together I can see how coaches charged with unearthing uncut gems might over rate him...

Widening it out this us always the problem taking on other peoples “talent”. What may look good on training grounds and in lower football ain’t always the same when exposed to the heat of first team football-which is what makes Garner particularly impressive

Not bad to say he doesn't come off his line much

These long throws we see so often these days. Do you think any of the officials actually look for foul throws? There are so many of them, yet none are given. The laws are quite precise that the feet are to be placed on or behind the line and that both must be touching the ground.

Thus long throw tactic is such bullshit. Despite the fact the ball is plonked in the box it doesn’t seem much of an attacking option because there’s not enough pace on the ball....
It’s also damn ugly....

I agree... and the stats do nothing to support it as a viable tactic, other than when it first was deployed as an attacking strategy many years ago.
1 The optimal time between the ball going out of play and the throw in being taken, in terms of the team taking the throw in retaining possession after the throw in is 5 seconds. The probability of retention diminishes rapidly beyond the 5 seconds elapse, because it allows the none-throw-in team time to get players into covering positions.
2 On average a long throw-in takes considerably longer than 5 seconds, running out at 25 - 35 seconds.
3 Goals scored as a direct result of a long throw-in are now as rare as rocking-horse shit.

I wonder what the Spanish and the Germans make of it. It’s so agricultural-is that really the best we can come up with in our professional leagues?.

Can we mention that quick kick Samba did where he pinged it straight as an arrow about 60 yards for Knockaert to run onto. Imagine that to someone with pace who would go and drive into the box and score.

He also made a couple of Peter Schmeichel-esque long throws out of his area, having gathered an opponents‘ attempted cross, to set attacks away.

Said it before, he reminds me very much of Bernard „The Cat“ Lama in his technique. And that is not a bad thing at all.

There were at least three occasions where the scrotherham right back stole literally 20 metres on his hoof throws, I thought they were meant to be taken where the ball went out...

Re: Brice Samba - „Magic Hands“

He has been here almost 2 years now and he really doesn't have a gaping weakness in his game, even the ones mentioned in the last page or so are disputable in my opinion. I think he dominates his box very well.

He's a good goalkeeper and a really likeable character. Does help that, when you don't just feel obliged to like them.

I think it's hugely important for a goalkeeper. Personality goes a long way in that position. Samba has a swagger about him, you see threads on Twitter with Samba that go viral and other fans of Championship clubs are always mentioning him as he's becoming quite a pantomime villain in the league.

I never thought Pantilimon was a bad keeper, but he didn't have a personality as a keeper. He had weaknesses in his game but he was nowhere near as bad as made out because he didn't play with any confidence in himself.

Lee Camp for us, played with personality like Samba does.

His distribution is the best I have seen in a keeper at Forest.

Samba wouldn't know what to do, he's never seen a player with real pace at Forest, well, not on the pitch for long anyway. (Diakhaby didn't count as a "player")

Didn’t Muric keep us in the game away at Leeds in the second game of last season?

He definitely did at Charlton away, including one phenomenal save from close range right in front of the away end.

He was terrible in that WBA home game, but Muric has talent. He’ll have a good career somewhere eventually.

Worst keeper I’ve seen was Henderson. Terrible.

Henderson was absolute dogshite, hence the traffic cone nickname. (One has more chance of saving the shots he lets in). I know we got pretty shafted by de Vries going off injured in that first match and then going to celtic and they had to rush a bit getting Vlad, and we didn't have a very defensive manager anyway, but the number and type of goals he was letting in was seriously shocking.

Probably the worst of our "first team" keepers which is why he spent most of the time as a backup. Roche made some errors but he was young and he did have some talent as he proved being a first team keeper for much of his career admittedly slightly lower down.

Muric was terrible for us but probably a prime example of a keeper trying to do too much, trying to be a sweeper keeper like Neuer when he hasn't quite mastered the basics yet, it will come.

Can't remember that last time I celebrated a goal by a Man Utd player in domestic football.

On matchdays I always end up in the wrong thread.

It's a bit like on the terraces when you get carried to a new spot after a goal goes in.
