The Mood

Not been too bad until now, frustrated that we are still deep in it but the jeopardy of relegation doesn't seem as real as last year. Keep thinking these guys are good enough to come out of it and better than the bottom 3.

If things are still tight with 2 gamed to go, it will probably turn to ambivalence thinking they will deserve what they get. If the worse was to happen then probably the 5 stages of grief, but I sincerely hope it never comes to that.

I remember saying back in July that I would snap your hand off for staying up on goal difference this season, how everyone sneered.

My brain is too cooked to remember what I said but I bet I’d take that too at the time. Especially because I was unsure of turner, I thought his time at Arsenal would help him but it did nowt

Questions. Has anyone actually enjoyed this season? Is this how football is going to be from now on?
I haven't really enjoyed it from the moment it was announced we breached FFP,

The Chelsea win was brilliant, and the Newcastle United double was a brilliant week,

West Ham, Villa and Fulham were allright but I was far too quickly brought back down to Earth by a damaging result,

Feel like a spoiled brat having waited so long for us to be back but I have to say, overall, I haven't enjoyed following Forest this season but won't stop me from watching every week,

Last year when we stayed up, I was ecstatic, it was amazing, this year i'll think thank f*** that's over

I genuinely think we are just as good as anyone in the bottom half. Sure we have flaws, but teams in the bottom half of tables tend to. The trouble is threefold though:

Firstly and most importantly, we haven’t proved it enough with results and performances over 90 minutes.

In part this is due the second problem - incompetent at best, corrupt at worst, refereeing.

Thirdly, and obviously, the points deduction. Were it not for this I’m convinced we’d be fine even despite points one and two.

Because of all this I guess my mood is pretty much “Que sera sera”. Let’s try and enjoy the rest of the season.

Yes.

I'm going to be boringly repetitive about this for months, but on footballing terms were 5pts ahead of Luton. It's hard to see how they could get ahead of us this season.

It's not a great season from us, but its not the football that will kill the season but the running of the club's finances.

Yep. And if we do go down below Luton the media will be full of claims that Luton have proved that survival can be achieved "without signing anyone".

Bored, and just checked. Luton have actually signed fifteen players, that will probably chalk up 300+ appearances between them before the end of the season. They even signed someone in January for £1.5m and immediately sent him out on loan to Reading 🤔.

Now, obviously they have spent a fraction of what we did on both fees and wages, and no doubt the money they have spent has been spent much more wisely, but the the reality is a bit different from the narrative isn’t it?

Anyone would think it’s the team they got promoted with plus Barkley and Townsend. It isn’t.

For me, we've gone from a really likeable, grounded and respected club to something more grubby and horrible.

Lied to about FFP was appalling. The club could and should have done something about it. We are far better than that.

VAR and poor refereeing decisions have sucked the life of the matchday experience. Whilst, it wasn't anything we could have altered, the appointment of Clattenberg was, and that gave us the look of a whinging and whiny club.

Facilities that haven't improved for years. Catering that is both expensive and downright awful.

No progress on ground improvements, with everything seemingly cloaked in secrecy. Talk of moving away from our spiritual home.

The sacking of club legend Steve Cooper. Whether it was the right decision still remains to be seen, but the fact that it was an open secret that he was only there on the whim of EM, was another bad look.

Grubby membership schemes, that look more and more like money grabbing Ponzi schemes.

A team that chokes on winning games. Same old faults game after game. Players literally raping a fantastic living out of our club.

And now ST increases that really beggar belief. Made worse by the club trying to justify this shit.

I may be alone in wishing this season away but somehow I doubt it.

Not really. Had the odd moment here and there, but Cooper's sacking really ripped the heart out of it.

We just feel so plastic now.
I do remember feeling kind of that way even before Cooper was sacked to be honest. I think it was the Brentford game - no Johnson, no Worrall, no Yates. No anyone from the championship I don’t think? Anyway we weren’t so awful and the players were passing it about fairly innocuously as they do, and I just thought “It’s over”. If it wasn’t the beginning of the end it certainly felt like the end of the beginning that day. Then I think Moussa got sent off and the atmosphere changed of course. There’s usually something around the corner for better or worse.

That's how I feel. I'm still desperate for us to stay up as getting relegated this season could have some severe lasting consequences. But I'd be lying if I said that I was enjoying this season. Hoping we can pull out a few surprise results so we can secure survival before the final day and I can forget all about this season. Its been horrible on and off the pitch.

To be honest I haven’t really enjoyed this season at all. I think the lack of hope really gets to me. As I get older the inequality between football clubs really just gets me down. I don’t think football is about winning but if you have no hope it’s just really frustrating. Best thing about the championship is we could win the league or get relegated and that's enthralling. Although the championship is getting worse and worse now. I can’t fully commit to love players anymore. Gibbs White and Murillo I should absolutely love but I just know they are gonna get pilfered. It’s just a sad time to be a football fan I feel. Competition is plummeting.

I keep thinking about being premier league. Do we really want to just be a palace? Like why is that even desirable? I don’t get footy fans, as i said competition and inequality has only got worse yet fans are flocking. I just don’t know what to think anymore.

Not everyone. There was a decent minority who agreed.

Looking forward with renewed hope.
The £100,000 collected from mugs (sorry - genuine supporters) who haven't got a season ticket but would like one (launched before the Club announced an overall 27% increase in ST prices - sinister or what?) will mean we can buy genuine Champions League ready players.
the 27% hike in ST revenue will mean we can pay them even more!
I shall have to make savings by having no pre-match fish and chips.

Do you get a rebate if we’re relegated?

Genuine question.

I’ve paid to be on the season ticket list, so that little investment has made me cancel the likes of shit Netflix and even shitter prime..
check your subscriptions people

I’ve never had a ST so I’ll be happy to invest next season. If the outrageous prices means I cut back on a local beer before the game… that’s on you Forest, you’re f***ing up the local economy… not me. I don’t have a bottomless pit and my loyalty can only be taken the piss out of so much..

Football wise, we look prem league now as opposed to chasing everything. We’ve got the basic of a mid table club now

Don’t let me down Forest lol

Forget to add, sounds like I’m totally skint.. actually those subscription cancellations made me feel better.. hardly f***ing use them now anyway

Woo - and indeed - hoo 😂
It was tongue in cheek with respect to the season card prices, but I do think those extra eight games home and away make a difference to the enjoyment of the season as a whole. In the PL every game just seems so much more intense. Especially when you’re writing off, what 10-12 of them? before you’ve even kicked off. Hasn’t worked out that way entirely of course.

Yeah dude just playing along.

With you on the lack of games, the gaps between them seem like forever, then you get a sodding int. break.

All the mid-weeks when all the cool kids are off playing in Europe as well. Tedious. Though if we ever did actually qualify I expect everyone would be moaning about fatigue and injuries etc all the time. Hiding to nothing!

Mood update - somehow I find myself at times desperate for us to avoid relegation whilst at other times not really caring too much if we get relegated. This season has been difficult to enjoy for so many reasons
  • the shitshow that is FFP
  • the shitshow that is VAR
  • the incompetence of Premier League referees
  • our inability to win games from winning positions
  • the realisation that, having unearthed a couple of gems, the chances of them wearing Garibaldi next season is close to zero
  • the difference between the passion of Cooper and the continental indifference of Nuno
  • our inability to take a decent set piece
  • our inability to defend ANY set piece
  • the growing gap between the top 6 and the rest
Despite this, on a match day I am on edge, emboldened by the magnificent Forza Garibaldi displays and the singing of MoK, willing the team to give us a good performance, hoping beyond hope that we will fulfil our potential, watching the game through my fingers in a state of constant panic. I say I don't care if we are relegated but I'm not sure that's really true. For some reason I desperately want us to be in the top division, the plucky underdogs snapping at the heels of the 'big' clubs. We were that once, we were better than that once, we ruled Europe ... and it was glorious. I want it again.

And then I remember that this whole system is now so weighted against the plucky underdogs that it all seems futile and I want nothing to do with it again. Let's go back into the Championship where money matters ... but as much as in the EPL, where we'll hopefully win more games than we lose, where the football feels more genuine, more traditional, more honest.

And then I think of fixtures against QPR, Rotherham, Plymouth and I want better than that for us. I think of 23 long years without hope, the endless managerial changes, when signing Harry Arter seemed like something positive, flirting with relegation to League 1 and I'm back again, wanting to stay in the EPL at all costs.

And then ...
