Snatchday 1: Nottingham Forest Vs the PGMOL

Redemption

One less gobshite...
I'm old enough to remember when ex-players getting involved in the officiating side of things wasn't a cliche but a necessary step to solving the injustices of the game.

If they're using the panel to decide if decisions are right or not the statistic is deeply flawed anyway.

The example is the foul on Reyna where the panel only looked at whether the foul was sufficient to bring Reyna down and not the actual effect of the foul itself, impeding Reyna from controlling the ball.

And the handball for that matter where it is not mentioned in the panels findings that Young moves his arm towards the ball.

Regarding the handball, Howard Webb said that Youngs arm was in a natural position. That’s just boll**s.

The news arrives as Sky Sports took the decision to remove an article from their website on Friday night in which Gary Neville appeared to backtrack on comments calling for former referee Mark Clattenburg to resign from his role at the City Ground following the controversial statement.

Sources close to Sky Sports insist the decision to withdraw the piece was purely an editorial decision and not related to any ongoing legal matter."

The tweet in question is here:

At the top, GNev says, "Clattenburg MUST resign"
Below, GNev says "We never call for people to resign on Sky"

So he's a bare-faced liar.

Rinse him, Big Ev.

Looking at match of the day, some of these nailed on pennos that ”have to be given” are a damn site softer than the one on reyna. Crazy that it can’t be seen.
Funny isn’t it.
Match of the day had 3 examples of top 6 clubs getting the decisions that have gone against Forest this season.
The Arsenal penalty was similar to the Awoniyi one vs Newcastle (in fact I can’t see the difference between that one and the one Ryan Yates didn’t get in the FA Cup defeat to Liverpool 2 seasons ago!).
Haaland brought down in a slight tussle and mutual engagement was exactly the same as the CHO one vs Everton.
The Burnley penalty shout vs Newcastle where Guimaraes brushes against the Burnley attacker has similarities with the Rashford one against us at Old Trafford (although Guimaraes also had hold of the Burnley players shirt which makes it worse!)

When Neco & Nuno are up on charge this week, they should be using those comparisons as proof.

Just seen the arsenal penalty, how's is that more nailed on then when awoniyi was taken out by the keeper, havertz literally dragged his back foot untill contact with the keeper and went down. Apparently from what commentators said they deserved it because they had 16 shots on goal to Bournemouth 0, If that's not clear bias I don't get what is.

The Bournemouth disallowed goal aswell how are they not questioning the degree of contact? Apparently the degree of contact was non existent for that, barely touched him.

The ref & VAR were too busy looking for a reason to disallow the goal that they missed the obvious pull back on the Bournemouth player.

Corrupt!

Makes me wonder how much people in power would sit up and listen if all the Twitterati who are raging against such injustice just stopped subscribing to Sky Sports next season?

I doubt Neville would be in a job for long, that's for sure lol.

Clearly implying that the average fan's opinion is worthless....unless of course it accords with theirs.
Can't remember who it was now but when talk sport first started they had one commentator on there, that if he was losing the argument would always come out with, "you don't know, I'm an ex professional, I've played the game to a higher standard than you".

Didn't Clattenberg cite targeting by pundits in his resignation statement?

I wouldn't be surprised if he was lawyering up himself.

When I watch the Teamtalk show, Charlie McParland can often appear dismissive of any local club fan on the show, or indeed of the host himself - "listen, I've been involved in professional football for over forty years" is something he frequently reminds everyone of; or, in other words, 'my opinion is of far more value than yours'.

Here's the problem that the PGMOL and Premier League have after yesterday:

After the debacle that was the Everton game, and Howard Webb's comments on the dreadfully shabby "Mic'd Up" show, the only conclusions that can be drawn is that Stuart Attwell is either bent or incompetent.

Let us, for everyone's sake PRESUME it's the latter.

No doubt, given Webb's comments on the show, Attwell will have been given some ..er.. guidance as to how to deal with incidents such as the Young/Hudson-Odoi one in the future.

Exactly such an incident occurred yesterday in the City/Wolves game.

Attwell, as VAR, instructed the on-field ref to have a look at the pitchside screen.

Now..We haven't heard the audio from this, but based on audio released from previous incidents (Chelsea/Spurs as a prime example) here's what's likely to have happened:

The VAR will be in the ear of the ref saying "I suggest you go to the screen because it's a penalty and you need to look at it". [In the Chelsea Spuds game, the ref was told to go to the screen to look at a red card offence.]

By the time the onfield ref has got to the screen he's had his mind made up for him by the VAR - "it's a penalty, go and have a look."

The number of times a ref has gone to the screen and stuck to his original decision can be counted on one finger.

What we have now is the Premier League tournament being refereed to two different standards and procedures within the same season. Some teams will benefit from this, and other teams will not.

Unfortunately for the Premier League, and the PGMOL, a "Big 6" team benefitted yesterday, and a (in Richard Masters' words "small team" did not, the other weekend at Everton.

What Howard Webb should have done, in order to preserve the integrity of the competition, was to stand down Stuart Attwell from all refereeing duties and VAR officiating until the end of the season, precisely to ensure that what happened yesterday didn't happen, and that the Premier League was officiated even-handedly (all be it ineptly) until the end of the season.

Webb's decision (a) not to do this and (b) to reward Attwell with a European Championship refereeing place shows a complete and utter lack of judgement by Howard Webb, and a level of recklessness and incompetence that borders on negligence.

All this, remember, rests on the assumption that Attwell is incompetent, and not bent.

As head of PGMOL, Webb's position is now untenable and (channeling my inner Gary Neville), Howard Webb must resign, and Attwell must be suspended, at least until the start of next season.

I’m surprised how some of you are talking about Attwell after yesterday. The foul on Haaland was clearly a penalty, just as the foul on CHO was. Are we honestly suggesting that because he made a howler in not instructing Taylor to give ours he should just do the same thing again for “consistency”? That’s absolute nonsense. He did the right thing yesterday after terrible judgment in our game, why do we think he should compound that awful decision by doing it again? The inconsistency and incompetence is infuriating but it doesn’t mean we should somehow demand more of it in games that have nothing to do with us. That literally makes no sense. I’m no fan of Attwell, he’s a terrible referee, but I just don’t get what people want him to do here.
