My dad was a Villa fan. He got a job lecturing at Clifton Teacher Training College and we moved to Radcliffe. He took me to watch Forest. Can't explain why but I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Villa.
I think the media have done them a disservice this year. Look at how well they have done, where they are in the table etc and you hardly hear about it.
They're more interested in how many time Ten Hag pulled himself off the day before.
He took a small wooden stool for me to stand on (health and safety would have a fit; pretty sure it was involved in the surges at the Trent End when we beat Man U 3-1 with 50,000 in the ground).
He played amateur league football for Bramcote Methodists at this time. He was in his school cricket and football teams at an absurdly young age, so could potentially have been a top class footballer, but he never pushed me to develop sporting abilities. He did show me how to bowl leg breaks.
I did eventually have my moment of glory in the late 1980s when the Elm Tree darts team started playing on the Forest on Sunday mornings, jumpers for goalposts, and I scored five in the first half one time.
Just realised that Monday is 100 years since my dad was born.
