Financial Fair Play (FFP)

It's funny you should say that as I've got an image of what you and Val look like. It's the same for a lot of long time posters on here, I've got an image I've created for each one.

I look like a fat Alan Shearer.

I would agree in principle. But it could be argued that you should have submitted your Covid losses when you were asked to. I am surprised with Everton as it is a really badly managed club yet they came up with a smart loophole
Everton who the premier league were trying to give a 10 point penalty to and currently have 6 points deducted?
Doesn't feel like they've completely got away with it.

Ultimately our circumstances are different to most other clubs - the 3 year period included COVID and 2 years in the championship without parachute payments and promoted with only half a first team squad.

We had to spend, we didn't have many sellable assets, had limited income and we'd suffered unforeseeable losses due to COVID.

All teams have to work under the same set of rules. When we got promoted we had virtually no players for the PL (the spine of our team were on loan). When Forest came up you stayed in the PL after the first season but continued to spend in the 2nd season and broke the rules hence the points deduction.
I disagree with how PSR is managed and I think the points deduction on Forest was harsh but I don't buy into the argument that it is not fair to punish Forest or Everton as both clubs made decisions which competent management would be very aware are breaking the rules and incompetence or simply ignoring the rules are not a valid defense.

If this is correct there is going to be an absolute shitstorm.

All promotion bonuses paid to players are included in PSR calculations every year by all clubs promoted. It is specifically highlighted in the rules that they are subject to PSR. Forest was looking for an exception to the norm and they were understandably refused.
When did that change then?

Not sure other clubs didn't fail if that has been the case since the 3 year Rule, or is it the case that in the EFL they are exempt but count in the PL?

Everyone on the game, in the media, knows that the Covid losses of Everton (£200 million) were an absolute fraud.

Why can't the EPL accept that?
There was a definite gap between their claim and what was actually accepted...had their Covid losses been accepted in full they pass PSR IMO.

EFL had their limits especially for the 3rd year of £2.5m for clubs in that League.

Its irrelevant what we spent in the second season - the corrupt PL are only looking at the first season back in the PL.........our loss allowance is £61 million based on 2 seasons in the Championship & 1 in the PL. This loss allowance ensures that it's as difficult as possible for promoted teams to gain a foothold in the PL.

Morning all btw hope we are well.

Aston Villa complaining about the tiles, looking for ways around..it takes me back. They never change do they, Stadium fiddle in 2018-19! 🤣 The chutzpah and entitlement there seems incredible no?

Yourselves and Everton were punished. Wolves sold half their squad, even Newcastle the richest club in the world striffled in January.

Aston Villa, I dunno what to say tbh I recall seeing articles that they've overcome FFP just 6-12 months ago. Their mindset is unique so far.

I do remember when they were promoted out of the PL the typical comment at the time was that it saved them because of how much they'd spent in the EFL........

Seems odd that football financial experts like Kieran Maguire expected the promotion bonus to be excluded if it is so clear in the rules. Also odd that the EPL waited until 4 weeks before we were due to submit to tell us this if it was so clearly obvious from the rules.

I guess all the other promoted clubs clearly identify the bonus in their accounts to ensure the EPL can easily see they've complied with the rules.

They probably held raffles where all the squad players pay £1 a ticket and the rewards are the equivalent of their promotion bonus. Enters their books as a major loss in their fund raising accounts. ;)

If City completely get away with it without charge it'll be exactly what I expected - can't imagine there's that many who think differently, or that those who do will be out with pitchforks... We're not in France (unfortunately of late in terms of demonstrations and standing up for rights/what you believe in. Conversely we seem to have developed a 'bend over' culture).

Indeed. Don’t rock the boat in case someone thinks you’re ‘playing the victim’.
