Transfer excitment levels

Two part question:

Which signing for Forest in the past had you the most excited (when hearing the news, not when they started playing)? Which players might be among the top 3 or 4 for excitement levels?

and

Which (potentially realistic at least, but could be subject of an ambitious attempt) player would have you feeling the most excited should he sign in January? Which players might be in the top 3 or 4?

When Jermaine Jenas signed on loan for us last season.

If we were to sign Jordan Rhodes (or is that too unrealistic?)

The Summer of Nicola Jerkan and Andrea Silenzi.

If we sign Shane Long, we'll get promoted.

Rhodes is not too unrealistic no, to give a guide - we have been linked anyway - whether it's realistic that we can and will actually sign him is a different matter but it's realistic enough for this thread definately.

Strangely, we're more capable of spending in some ways than when we signed Sheringham or Collymore (although sales of Webb, then Keane and Clough made money available and in the first case so did going to Wembley a few times I suppose; plus the club was held in higher esteem with a better recent history). Football inflation has been pretty rampant, but Rhodes would not have been of a level of player we couldn't have gone for before by any stretch - not that prices and quality always go hand in hand. And FFP will play a part, however much Fawaz wants to splash out I suppose.

The signing of Bryan Roy.

I simply couldn't believe we were signing a Dutch World Cup player from Serie A.

As for who we might buy in January? I haven't a clue.

Hobbs amd Wilson were two. Abdoun too, but that was spoiled by all the false rumours that he hadn't actually signed.

Any clinical striker or real DM will have me happy.

Haha. I will also add I'd get very giddy if we somehow signed Pep back. Not been following but I cannot see him being a Pulis player at all.

Well, as you can imagine, I was rather excited about Kjetil Osvold and Lars Bohinen.

Norwegian players at Forest? Fantastic.

I was very excited when Sheringham signed. He'd been scoring for fun at Millwall. Lansbury signing for Forest I thought was a coup.

I didn't really know much about Stan Collymore or Colin Cooper when they signed.
I would have thought John Sheridan was a decent signing back in the day.

And, I was really, really happy when Clough re-signed Neil Webb. Nigel back on loan was also something that had me purring.

Earnshaw was a big signing.

Our first 'big' signing in ages. Was excited when we got him.

I think if we got Long, that would be just as big, given our relative positions.

The signing of Bryan Roy.

yup. that has to be the most exciting in my time. the fact he then scored the only goal to win the season opener back in the top division - when reds took over portman road - only pushed that further.

clinical striker for me too pls. an unheard of european diamond would be just luverly.

In recent memory, the loan signings in the season of death under Steve 'Steven' Cotterill. It felt like there was a chance we might survive

Foreign players always seem more of an exotic signing, Ponte, Van Breuklen, Segers, Metgod, Roy, Bohinen, Abdoun...
So I'd probably say Abdoun recently, although getting Wilson from Celtic was good, on so many levels.

Trevor Francis. More recently Brian Roy. Last ten years Lansbury (seemed symbolic of the beginning of the Fawaz Era)

A top striker like Rhodes or Long would do.
