We need to be careful not to loose sight of what is was like to return to your car to find your car stereo missing.
Should we blame Scousers for all crimes of that type for a good 20 year period. Possibly yes.
Actually-the first time I was given the ‘mind your car, mister?’ offer was at Old Trafford.

I'll never forget when I turned up at Villa Park late for the West Ham semi-final. Just got completely lost on the way to the ground then I found it. Decided just to look for a space and take my chances with thieves and the law. Founf a spot in a run down street not 100 yards from the ground. Little lad says "Look after your car mister?" Gave him a fiver and ran for the Holte End, not expecting to see my hub caps, wheels etc again.

We won in style, then found my car, whole and untouched. Lovely day all round.

When I did my tour of the grounds went back to my spot and it's now gentrified and posh, not a run down slum area. And the guards in the guard room at the gate were on top form, let me into the ground without an escort as long as I kept within CCTV coverage. Another top day.

From the '60s onwards, there were regular incidents which went down in history, which probably gives me reasons for the massive dislike I have for certain clubs (and their fans).

* Millwall (a) - not one specific match but what normal club would shut their away lower seating because they couldn't trust their fans to behave?
* Millwall (a) - never a pleasant match to go to.
* Newcastle (a) - FA cup. Pitch invasion. Punching of players. Unfair advantage to 1st div side. Lost after 2 replays.
* Liverpool (a} Second leg of European Cup. In Anfield Road in the Liverpool crowd. Had to move because the Liverpool fans were lobbing bags of faeces and urine into the Forest fans.
* Derby (h) Beaten up on platform on Nottingham Station (No complaints - stupid to wear my scarf).

We shouldn't really complain. Our so-called Mad Squad made a point of trying (and often succeeding) to get into the home sections of opposition grounds. Things have not entirely changed. We seem to have taught fans from other countries, attending away European ties, how to behave disgracefully.

We sang songs based quite accurately on the hit tunes of the time. Quite clever, some of them. Trent End was rough though!

"We are the Trent End Boot Boys" got a run out on Saturday, can't remember the last time I heard that!

If more restrictions are introduced in WB, supporters who need to drive in are going to be hugely impacted now, let alone when the capacity is increased. As the County Council demanded that NFFC provide a significant amount of funding towards upgrading highways infrastructure over a wide area (including access around Murder Lane) as part of the planning approval process, it should be incumbent on Ben Bradley and his cronies to improve public transport to the area around Trent Bridge on a matchday.

Don’t hold your breath. Their view of Forest in the Premier League is a golden opportunity to fleece the club & the fans.

I don't doubt you're wrong, which is why it annoys me so much when I see Bradley freeloading in the CG directors' box.
Tbf i think he has always been a fan before he was a MP though

More park and ride is the obvious answer. All you need is a field and buses. Every Open I have been to uses this method and it works just fine.

I can't see the name Ben Bradley without being put in mind of a splendid quote from "All The President's Men"...
Once when I was reporting, Lyndon Johnson's top guy gave me the word they were looking for a successor to J. Edgar Hoover. I wrote it and the day it appeared Johnson called a press conference and appointed Hoover head of the FBI for life... And when he was done, he turned to his top guy and the President said, "Call Ben Bradlee and tell him f*** you."

Yes.

I know they've tried doing shuttles from the Station, with not much take up, but that seemed to be missing the point given that it's only 15 minutes walk to start with - so if someone is getting the Tram most of the way, they might as well walk the last stretch rather than bugger about with a connection.

I reckon that (at minimum) they should try out direct shuttle buses from the existing P+R sites at Clifton South and the Racecourse - which between them could catch a large amount of the traffic coming in from the South and East. Not sure about Racecourse, but Clifton South is always massively underutilised. Then if those work maybe look at adding Queens Drive and Toton Lane.

(actually - the 50 bus from Racecourse P+R to Lady Bay Retail Park already is a just about viable option, but it's never publicised like that so not sure how many people know or use it.)

If only Forest followed the lead of some countries and leagues I could mention and included the cost of a daily public transport ticket in the exorbitant cost of a matchday ticket?

You never know, that might actually encourage people to use what public transport there is (limited in scope as it is, of course).

The solution is staring at the City Council and Forest.

Build a proper fanzone on the embankment, entry includes park and ride from Queens drive etc. 15 min walk from there and it can accommodate 1000s.

Sustainability sorted along with park and ride revenue to the City Council. Keeps traffic away from Trent Bridge etc

Those that can’t get tickets are also sorted

Except for my time in the senior service, I was fortunate to live within walking distance of the CG Chris, in the Meadows and Sneinton (I now drive from Bakersfield and park in Sneinton), but for those traveling from the north and west of the region there was a really good system in the 60s and 70s when NCT ran a continual bus service between Lower Parliament Street (outside where Boots now is) and Trent Bridge, and return, for a set fare. Whether there is sufficient available vehicle capacity to bring back a similar service without compromising normal routes however, I've no idea.

Shuttle buses between the p&r sites and the ground sounds an excellent idea.

What is done in Stuttgart on matchdays, and whenever there is a big event on at either the football stadium or the Porsche Arena next door (and indeed, the famous Volksfest which is held on the Cannstatter Wasen over the road) is there is a stream of U-Bahn light rail trams every ten minutes from the central station, about three hours beforehand, then afterwards, there is a queue of trams waiting at the nearest stop (again across the street, and the stop is especially designed for this) to ferry visitors back to the central station.

The S-Bahn trains (there is a stop for those on the other side of the stadium) also run an enhanced service on matchdays, and there are extra trains waiting at full time.

There are extra buses running as well, back and forth from the city centre.

And of course, these are essentially free, as the cost is subsidised as part of the match ticket price.

Absolutely zero point in providing any sort of shuttle service over here. They would simply get stuck in one of the many coned off road 'works' that are having no work done but coned off anyway.

They tried a shuttle from Queens Drive (I think it’s called) a few years ago. I used it a few times. Was ok heading to ground but an absolute nightmare after the game.
Massive congestion outside of the Embankment pub as people tried to get on

That's pretty much the problem for any type of transport getting away from any decently attended sporting event at any decent sized stadium, so it shouldn't come as any surprise to those who are planning it. People will arrive at a stadium at a much wider range of times, for various reasons, but pretty much all of them will be looking to leave the stadium at almost exactly the same time.

Has he singed yet?
Doesn’t really help that the City Ground sits among major thoroughfares North/South (Loughborough Road) and major routes east (Radcliffe Road). I suppose other towns and cities with clubs that have moved out of town have had the golden opportunity to ensure the surrounding infrastructure copes well with volumes of traffic and people, and can introduce efficient Park & Ride services.

Not advocating a move away from the CG of course!

Forest also has the peculiarities of the limited river crossings to contend with.

A few years back (10 maybe) there used to be a number of no. 6 buses lined up on Musters Road at the end of each game ready to take fans back into town.
Don't know why they stopped doing that.

I'm sure it would be possible to do something like that over here ... oh, hold on ...
