The Relegation Dogfight 23/24

We will survive. Maybe not as easily as it should be but we will. Everton will be fine, but I think Palace will drop. As for the other 2 to be relegated - I really couldn't care.

I think Feb is a tough month for us, but after that, we should be looking at points and against the relgation rivals.

Another fake table-we had 20 points after 19 games last season.
Did we have a game moved for some reason because that table is definitely not correct for our first 19 games but maybe there was one game moved until after the Leicester game for some reason. I can only imagine those tables must use the original order of games.

Sorry I didn't double check my research, that table was "after round 19" so maybe yea what you say.

Weird, though. I mean irrespective of what round it is either we've played 19 games or we haven't. That table had '19' for us in the Matches column

I tend to agree that the bottom two now will have a hell of a job to survive this season. I think Luton will surprise many and stay up, but will go down next season, like so many promoted clubs, they battle well in the first season, but soon get found out and the lack of strength in depth will do for them.

So anyone from Fulham down might go this year, it's just on who can summon up a string of decent results to stay in the League.

I said on the other thread but I think all the bottom teams are benefiting from everyone being knackered which will change next month.

Luton in particular have also played 2 of the top 8 away from home in comparison to us who has played 6 of the top 8. Gonna be intriguing what they do in January. We will obviously strengthen, I think Palace's wildcard will be the managerial change.

I think Luton will go down still, they have just got back to back wins but I thought they were very lucky vs Sheffield United personally
Aye... and they have a small squad.

It is far too early to think Forest are out of the (Chris) woods yet.
Blunts and Burnley both look to be favourites for bottom 2 positions.
That third place is still not at all settled.
Luton could falter, but I think they aqre doing what forest did last season - strong team spirit and a manager who is getting them to overachieve.
Everton could get another points deduction, possibly, but if they don't I think they have enough to pull away.
Forest... we had a great win at St James' Park, but whether we can maintain that sort of performance is still not certain.
Palace are having a bad time of it, but I doubt they will sack Roy... more likely to move him "upstairs" as director of Football, and appoint a new Head Coach. They are still well in the mix for a third spot.
Brentford are slipping as well: 5 defeats and 1 win in their last 6 games, and the last defeat a real home fixture spanking.
I think teams above Brentford, including Fulham, are likely to keep their feet out of the mire.

Sky bet only have 4 serious candidates for the drop at the moment-

Sheffield United-1/25
Burnley-2/7
Luton-4/11
Forest-2/1
Palace-13/2
Everton-8/1
Brentford-12/1
Fulham-14/1

Things can change quickly though-Forest were 7/1 only a few weeks ago before their dip in form.

I see what you mean-I’m pretty sure Forest didn’t have a game significantly moved though (apart
from a day or two or perhaps a time change to suit TV!).

Brentford odds will get slashed if they don't win either of their next two games (Palace, Forest) because after that they've got Spurs, Man City and then Wolves (away).

Palace got Brentford and Sheff Utd (both at home) so their odds probably won't change much in short term, they'll get some points there.

Aha!

It was because the Queen died so all of gameweek 7 was postponed and ended up being played in April.

So that table includes the Leeds game but not Leicester which was the real 19th game.

Sheff U just don't have enough in them to stay up, despite Wilder's return. Good move for them though, if they back him long term he'll get them back up and more competitive on their return.

As @Rockabilly says, Luton have a small squad and so I don't think they'll be able to maintain their recent tenacity for the remainder of the season.

Fulham are the side I think are gonna duke it out with Burnley. They're a lot shitter than their position suggests, and their recent form is woeful (lost 3 on the spin, conceded 8, scored 0 in those games). They've already played a lot of the worst teams at home too.

I think we'll sign a keeper and (hopefully) another goal scoring forward and be fine.

DOF?
Wouldn’t think so - Dougie doing a great job & very well thought of.
Time for Roy to walk off into the sunset & enjoy his pipe & slippers.

This is how I have in finishing after the last round of games. Based on a starting point of all clubs getting 40 points and each game weighted for opposition and home / away. Our first half of fixtures was, by my theory, easier than the half to come mainly due to having the three promoted clubs at home. We are 4 point below where we should be to hit 40points for the season. I didn’t include Brentford but will need to add depending on how they go on v Palace and us.

Wolves 48
Bournemouth 48
Palace 40
Fulham 40
Everton 37
Luton 37
Forest 36
Burnley 32
Sheff Utd 29
