Worra fukin state of affairs.

Agents and players have caused this stench and everybody has been quite happy to see players wages go to the moon and the vermin agents take billions out of the game. Take ya medicine.

Somebody has to keep taking the fall, and it will go further up the leagues. Wait 'til it hits a big club.

I grew up in Gainsborough and Scunthorpe were the closest the football league team, only 15 miles apart. The Old Showground was the second league ground I ever visited (after Hillsborough)

The previous owner at Scunthorpe (Peter Swann) was previously at Gainsborough and ended up pulling the plug after plans to build a new ground failed.

Gainsborough’s ground isn’t owned by the club, instead it’s owned by the Blues Club, officially known as the Gainsborough Trinity Supporters Club, which was my old drinking haunt back in my 20’s.

Swann wanted to move the club to the outskirts of town but the ‘Blues’ committee voted against the pub being sold off. Which looking back was a great decision when seeing how things turned out for Scunthorpe when he managed to get his hands on Glanford Park.

I’m sure if they can, Trinity will allow Scunthorpe to play games on the Northolme. The clubs have always had a good relationship and over the years would normally meet each other during pre-season.

It’s wrong though if Hilton has told the world that an agreement is already in place without the knowledge of Trinity knowing about it.

A total mess, and like Southend, I fear we’ll be losing another football club.

Also-potentially another piece of football history has gone. It’s worth remembering Scunthorpe were a 2nd tier
club not so long ago.

Was at my local side Clapton CFC before the Palace game. Two nil down and opposition goalie has a mare and gets a straight red for denying a goalscoring opportunity. We thenwent on to score a last minute equaliser. Not seen this happen before though…

What was the red card for?

The indirect free kick is punishment...

If, after the ball is in play, the kicker touches the ball again before it has touched another player an indirect free kick is awarded

@PynchonForest any thoughts?

I think referee saw as intentional/cynical prevention of goalscoring chance by doing it. It clearly wasn’t an accidental double contact. Hence the red. No idea if correct or not but general consensus seems to be was correct decision.

Doesnt denying a goal scoring opportunity cause a penalty?

I thought the ball gad to leave the 18 yard box before a member of the opposite team could play the ball.

Nah that rule was binned a few years back.

For outfield players, yes. Not the keeper:

Ahh ok, for some reason I got things mixed up. I thought a opposition player couldn't play it until the ball had left the area or a second player from the team taking it had touched it inside the 18 yard box. I stand corrected now.

Apart from offside, I rarely see an indirect free kick these days. Inside the penalty indirect free kicks are always a fun occasion!

In tonights FA Cup Level 7 have travelled to Barnsley and come away with a replay after the game finished 3-3. In the other tie level 8 Sheppey United lost at home 4-1 to Walsall. Got to say both non league teams have done themselves proud.

As this thread has popped up againm, I might mention that the Linnets are still languishing in the depths of National North, but have had a couple of encouraging results and meet the mighty Peterborough Sports today, who are also languishing in the League. A decent result would mean the team would move a bit further away from the dreaded relegation zone, which is such a sudden drop from their 'nearly' promotion last season.

Indeed a 'nearly' relegation would suit me fine as it would allow consolidation, just as I would be happy with the same for NFFC.

Can you believe it Eastboune fans have got a drum

This is Eastbourne. It’s basically a big retirement home where people go to die. The drum is to check whether they are asleep or dead.

Meanwhile the game goes on , today the mighty Linnets, after a rather unexpected away victory over another team vying for relegation from National North, Southport, play a local derby today against Boston Utd, a game given added spice because their manager is former King's Lynn manager Ian Culverhouse.

The Linnets are still languishing in the League, but are hanging on in there and not being cut adrift at the bottom. So all to play for.

Oh dear! That went well, not. Boston won 2-1 at the Walks. Fortunately those closest to them also lost, so things could be worse; not much, but little margins etc.
