The Karl Darlow Super Thread

I think part of our defensive frailities earlier in this season were down to the defence not having a lot of confidence in Camp, now with Darlow growing in confidence in every game, that confidence is rubbing off on the defence

It's got to inspire the defence when they turn around and see Darlow's barnet instead of Camp's sullen mug

“Karl was incredibly polite and grateful for the interest but doesn’t feel this is the right time to make any decisions on his international future.

“Karl commented that there is quite a lot going on at his club at the moment and he just wants to concentrate on that element of his career.

“But the door isn’t closed from our side or his and he’s definitely a player the management will continue to keep an eye on and watch as he progresses his career.”

A very mature way of dealing with things. I get the picture it wasn't a case of 'No, am going to win the world cup with England''. And the fact they have left the door open to him shows he made an impression on them. He has achieved a lot this season and wouldn't blame him if he did play for them, however part of me is glad he has decide to focus on his club football for the time being!

Hard to tell peering through the fog from the other end of the stadium but it looked like he made a great save at one point with his legs.

3 clean sheets in a row, brilliant stuff.

He did - a quite fabulous stop of a deflected shot.

Unorthodox, but it shows that the young goalkeeper can improvise when needed.

It shows natural talent rather than that he's just been trained up as a lot of footballers are.

i'm really impressed with him. He's not made a mistake since being made first team goal keeper. Has made a number of critical saves too.

Ok, dose of realism here. He's really not been tested yet. We've barely given up a chance in two games.

Agreed. To be fair though, Camp was hardly tested in the first half of the season. He just sort of let goals in. The only big save I can remember him making was away vs Palace, at the end

Goalkeeping Skill Set: Marks out of 10...
1 Good vision - able to anticipate... 8/10
2 Command of area - gives confidence to outfield defenders 7/10
3 Shot stopping - confident 8/10
4 Cross taking - catches cleanly; punches firmly 9/10
5 Reflexes - could catch a pigeon - 8/10
6 Distribution - likes to throw, sometimes kicking can be a bit iffy but generally gets good distance 6/10
7 Communication - no evidence of confusion or silence 7/10
8 Bravery - puts his body in the way, out to forwards' feet, tends not to lead with his own feet (did you see the Man U keeper last night - really yitney!) 8/10
9 Agility - he's young, nimble and recovers well after making a save 7/10
10 Savvy - he's young and still learning, but seems to be well aware of how to win a free kick under pressure 7/10
Overall 75% - upper quartile, great prospect...

Darlow's sharp and decisive - that's a great foundation to build upon and half the battle won already.

If i'm honest my only real criticism of Darlow to date is he can occasionally be a little indecisive in his coming off the line. I think he sometimes takes a couple of steps to come, then holds off and it has invited pressure onto us, but to his credit he's made the save afterwards.

What I will say though is that's something that improves with experience and he's got plenty of time to gain that experience. Collins could have helped him more last night, with his passbacks, firstly, he put them on target, which you're always told never to do, and secondly he was playing them across his goal onto his right foot, when even if it's weaker, you should be playing it wide of the goal onto his left and let him kick it out of play if need be, we got lucky with the one which deflected to safety.

Top prospect and I hope Davies keeps him as No.1 for next year and beyond.

I have been really impressed with him, I think I've seen one piece of play I didnt like when Burke scored that goal past him that went in the middle of the goal from far out he was a bit too far off is line however thats a bit hash from me.

His coolness has very impressed me and when people say he could play for England one day I think yeah he has a chance considering Butland has, the ice cool nature of him is very impressive and I think he showing better form than Camp.

Yeah, Butland will be Hart's successor. The saves that he made vs Brazil in that pre-Olympic friendly (or was it in the Olympics?) were tip top. I'm sure Karl will have a big game soon

While I was on FP last night I saw a very interesting interview with Paul Barron talking about Darlow and saying how good he thinks he is. For anyone who hasn't seen it I have uploaded it to YouTube.
