The Joe Lolley Retirement

Agree with above post. It Mit sound harsh but we need to create the bond they had last year, that seemed instrumental in promotion and need a tight squad to achieve it. I loved lolly-him and cash were immense, but things evolve and we have progressed.

Yeah, I think that's a key thing.

Similar to the Samba situation, once a player is "outside the circle" then they no longer get the preferential treatment those inside it get. It's the best way to keep a together, winning mentality.

Does Joe deserve to be outside that circle? From his personality and attitude no, but from the past few years actual play yes.

I feel for the lad, but I understand the decision too.

At the end of the day you have to trust Coops (and the recruitment team), its like the situation with Grabbs-we are showing a hard nosed professionalism in how we do are business, one where there isn't room for sentimentality.
What's clear though is we already needed reinforcements in the wide/inside forward areas and if Lolley goes that's even more acute...

Probably couldn't beat his meat either. 😁

Great player over his time with us. I genuinely thought he had a part to play this season, albeit a small one.

As others have mentioned, a clear indication of the quality we're looking to bring in. If he can get a run of games he'll make an excellent addition to a championship side.

Cheers, Joe.

He will always be welcome in Nottingham, an absolute honest player, who always put in a shift.

Good luck Joe, wherever you end up.

No surprise Joe has been deemed surplus to requirements. The injuries seem to have really taken their toll on him in the last year or two. Prior to that though, for 2.5 years he was a top player and a really enjoyable one to watch. Certainly one of my favourites of recent times.

I do find it a little odd that he's been discarded to the u23's though, especially when we're so light in attacking area's. Also, if it's true that he was told by text, then that is very disappointing.

TBH Huddersfield fans didn't really care when we got him and he had those 3 seasons and was the dogs bullocks. Maybe the injuries just come and go and his dog shit when he gets them? Maybe it's a mental block, some people stress can manifest itself in physical problems and fresh pastures might help him? Who knows

He never seemed to come back after the pandemic. Heard rumors he was a bit of a shagger as well, so maybe he's been using his energy elsewhere.

I don’t understand why he’s been booted to the Under 23s. Seems a bit of a shit way to treat someone who’s been here for so long and is a decent bloke. By all means tell him he’s free to find a new club - but there’s no need to treat him like this.

Seems really odd and disappointing on the clubs behalf.

Depends on how it is handled really. It may be that the club have been assessing the situation and speaking to Lolley for a while, before deciding that it is better for him to train away from the first team as he isn't going to be involved this season.

Obviously if they've dumped him into the U23s abruptly then it is a very shit way to deal with a player who has been a good servant to the club and is widely respected by the fanbase and probably many of his colleagues.

It depends a lot on things that - at this point at least - we as fans just don't know about.

If, for example, he was told a few weeks before that he wasn't going to be involved with the first team and was offered reasonable (ie not needing to uproot to another part of the country) options for loan moves but turned them down then the decision is fair enough and arguably necessary.

If he was given no warning that it was going to happen then obviously that's not good - but everything we've seen suggests Steve Cooper isn't likely to handle a sensitive situation like that.

The sentimentality in football comes from us fans. For the modern player, it's a career. For the club, they are assets.

Steve Cooper explained it after Burton more or less. The way Forest train is usually with a group of about 20. That's going to be essentially the starting eleven and the nine substitutes. All the time and energy is spent on maximising the efforts of that group ready for the next match.

Lolley now finds himself outside that group, as Cooper doesn't think he's good enough for the Premierleague but obviously, he's still got to get match fit, either in case we need him in the 20 OR more likely so that he can find himself a new club.

Forest have to be ruthless to an extent because the likes of Lolley, Taylor and Da Costa all still have to be paid by the club even if they won't be involved. That is our contractual obligation to them. Putting Lolley in the 23s does not just allow Cooper to focus on the main squad, it also sends a clear message to Joe to try and find himself another club.

If he's knocking around the first team, maybe he becomes a bit of a prick because he's not playing and holds up the sessions. Maybe he begins undermining the staff or complaining about his situation. All of those things happen on training pitches up and down the country.

Joe had a great first two and a half years with us, but he's done very little else since, at a lower level than the one we are currently playing at. While it might rub some the wrong way, it's just business.

This still makes me sad, Lolley should be the player were so excited to see play in the Prem yet we all know he's not good enough.

Our 17th exit this summer.

Good luck to him, hope he has a good time down there and starts to enjoy his football again. Great servant to the club and a top bloke, a real shame how injuries have taken their toll over the last few years as he was superb before that.
