The glorious demise of Manchester United

Am I the only poster who will admit I had to look up what Milquetoast means?

Everyday is a school day !

It’s what you get when you stick milqueroll under the grill isn’t it?

Well, for anyone who’s missed having to listen to Robbie Savage as a „professional“ pundit, I recommend injecting yourself with bleach, and then placing your head in a kitchen blender for about ten minutes, because the effect will be roughly comparable?

I disagree, Savage is way less entertaining than that. I do remember a 606 caller having a go at him about apparently being rude to a shop assistant when buying trainers and Savage went off on one saying about how it couldn't have been him and gloating and literally screeching about how he gets all his sports stuff free. Sounded like a spoilt toddler who got hold of a multi pack of skittles.

No. He talks like large swathes of younger folk, including the majority of current players.
Probably why I'm not a fan and watch football and other things to try to escape from it.

The local shops around me are just 'boss' and 'bro' shows. Maybe I'm getting old and grumpy cos I don't like bare manz, get me bruv.

Football always has been, and always will be cyclical in nature.

Teams rise to the very top...and those teams always fall away to insignificance...then maybe rise again.

All that injecting obscene amounts of money into a club does, is simply DELAY the inevitable.

United are no longer a team to be feared, Old Trafford no longer a venue to be overawed at.

Oh - and PLEASE...like the guy on the radio was begging last night, sack TenHag and install Rooney.

That would be the funniest thing in modern history.

An international break after this weekend's games would be the ideal time to move Ten Hag out, and for the Glazers to find Plymouth on a map so that Rooney can put the seal on 20 years of decline.

The only thing better than watching Man U struggle, is watching them struggle under one of their former 'legends'. Seeing Solksjaer fail there was enjoyable, perhaps Steve Bruce or Bryan Robson could be persuaded to give it a go.

I remember that, seven pairs of trainers! Comedy gold.

IMO they need a no nonsense, old school player type to manage them. The players are running the show there and that needs to end.

I'm not telling them though, i'm loving the collapse!

Recruitment is their problem, for both players and managers.

They haven't hired a genuine title challenging player or coach in years.

Thing is you're not going to turn round a club like Man U and have them competing for the title in a couple of seasons. Just look at Arteta at Arsenal; 8th, 8th and 5th his first three seasons, but they stuck with him and are now genuine title contenders

Problem is you have to pick the right guy in the first place and I don't think Ten Hag was ever a good fit for them

Their huge mistake was not keeping faith with Moyes

He's a great manager IMO and SAF picked him for a reason; a manager very much in the same mould who would've carried on the principles Fergie ran the team by, and a dip in form is inevitable when someone like him leaves a club after so long

If they'd stuck with him they'd have been competing for titles within a few years

The wonderful thing is:
The fanbase has such exalted levels of entitlement that any manager not having them win the League and Europe inside 18 months will be chewed up & spat out.

Add in to that the spiv Ratcliffe wanting the maximum return on investment in the shortest time while angling for public funds to build a better "Theatre of Dreams🤮" the pieces are in place for a long, drawn-out and painful fall from grace for that club.

And it's wonderful.😀

Sounds fair enough. Definitely agree on Moyes. West Ham decided first time round to replace him with Pellegrini, but then ended up reversing that and tempting Moyes back.

It's early days with Lopetegui but it seems that they are not at the same level as previous seasons under Moyes.

He did a good job at Everton with little to work with in general and that got him the Man Utd job.

They then didn't give him even a full season, but the side had already started to stagnate in Fergie's last few seasons and older players needed replacing which had been better managed in earlier years.

Keeping the faith with a manager is one thing and as you point out it needs to be the right fit. Thing is no-one is going to be the right fit for Man Utd because everyone is still harking back to the Ferguson era even though that was several managers and over a decade ago, They have had plenty of names in there too - Moyes, Mourinho, van Gaal, and then Solksjaer, ten Hag. None have lasted more than 2-3 years because the club won't let them. There is no time there to get a consistent plan in place and build for the future. Any of the big names could have done it but was Ferguson a big name when he came down from Aberdeen? The case is out on that one - he'd done well at Aberdeen and is still the last manager to win a title with a non Old Firm club, and he'd taken charge of Scotland temporarily at 1986 WC in the stead of Jock Stein's death. But he had never played or managed in England, and when they sacked Atkinson for him, their level initially went down not up, and it apparently only took the 1990 FA Cup win to keep him in the job, and then the big titles followed. That's longer than anyone since has had. Even then it wasn't always good, took him a few attempts to replace Schmeichel adequately (good as they were, Mark Bosnich, Tim Howard and Fabien Barthez were not good enough or consistent enough) and then managed to get VdS (who they should have gone for initially!). In general I don't think Fergie was actually that good at picking keepers.

They need to stick or twist but if they twist it needs to be for the right person. I'm not actually sure who could turn it around so they might as well stick

I mean I’d like to think we’re grounded, but some here start panicking if we’re not winning and predict the r word if something drastic doesn’t happen, a sacking or some shit. It’s basically how any business seems to work, someone takes the can…..or perhaps you could learn from the mistakes….

Then we move onto Man Utd, they don’t learn from glaringly obvious mistakes, who for instance sanctioned a 64 million deal for mason mount ? 😝 f***ing hell what a deal for Chelsea, bang average. No team other than Man I would do that. The supporters, I wouldn’t knock them away from home, they’re superb tbh. But ffs at home they’re awful, another example of getting exactly what you wanted, tourists…

Where's me hammer?
United just need to stick with someone and let them sort it... they wont and they will continue to struggle until they do.
