Yeah, the first round is usually mid-August, and often throws up some decent ties. And better, it’s seeded so the lower-league teams get to play at „Home“, which for many of the smaller sides gives them a bumper crowd (and a little bit of an advantage too, perhaps).

The VfB play on Tuesday evening (a rarity) away to Preußen Münster, because this evening they play Bayer Leverkusen in the SuperCup.

Bayern‘s new kit is a bit of an acquired taste, that I’ll agree with you.

Sad news from Germany this morning, as legendary coach Christoph Daum loses his fight against cancer at the age of 70.

A flamboyant and massively respected coach, he’s a legend in Stuttgart for his time at the VfB, as well as his management of Bayer Leverkusen.

Well, yes, if you want to admit that it's rigged beyond belief that's probably the case.

32 teams?

You need 32 balls and 4 pots to put the drawn balls into for the "groups"

Anything else is just rigging the draw.

At least it is attempt at more of a league format. Always bothered me that the champions league doesn't have a league element.

Not sure it counts of you only play a handful of teams though

It bothers me more that the "Champions" league is made up of teams who mostly aren't champions.

Iagree. It's just a money-making scheme with the 'money' element laid bare.

If you want 32 teams to be designated champions, fair enough, but chuck them all in the bag together and let them take their chances. Play each tie home and away and space the games out sensibly so none of them can complain about being "over tired" at the end of a season spent counting their cash.

Yep. Forest, as many on here will remember, were drawn against the European Cup holders, the scousers, in the first round of the 78-79 European Cup, and despatched them, 2-0 on aggregate.

I had finished my library book last night, so read through selected passages of "I Believe in Miracles" again before going to sleep.

The last few pages of the book detailing what the club did between winning the Anglo-Scottish Cup and the second European Cup is astonishing and puts into context just what a tremendous few years it was for those of us who were lucky enough to be around at the time.

I remember watching us collect the Anglo-Scottish Cup on some rather makeshift steps they’d hastily put on the terrace in front of the (then) Committee Box and thinking “Wow, we’ve won a cup that isn’t the County Cup!” As I think Cloughie said, it was a trophy and it gave us a taste for more.
