Aye...it meant alot to us and many other teams back in those days when it was a proper trophy before the PL and the big six f**ked everything up.

If you're including "Sky" in "PL", the yes, you absolutely have a point, because of the narrative they have helped create, the League Cup may as well be an inconvenience for PL sides, especially the big six.

...I would still love to win one of those Tin Pot trophies though, personally.

Same here Jack, same here.

When I was commenting on that Klopp picture I said 'tin pot' because of the likes of Klopp, Liverpool and Co, that's how they see it. It was a very much tongue in cheek pi55 take comment.

Yup, it meant a lot to every team back then - it was a rare chance to play at Wembley (before there were play-offs and the ridiculous hosting of FA Cup semi-finals there) and the winners qualified for Europe (before the days of the top 7 or 8 all qualifying). I remember how much it bothered Liverpool when we beat them in the 1978 League Cup Final. They were really annoyed that little old Forest (well, Forest reserves, given we were without four or five injured and cup-tied players) had beaten their first team. It wasn’t only because of the controversial penalty but also because they had never won it before. The fact they won it four years in a row a few years later shows it meant something to them. Yet another thing that ‘progress’ has ruined.

Well said Ian, 100% spot on.

I rather like it when that prick sounds off and no one takes any notice. They just continue on their own sweet way.
He is an absolute shill.

He's always moaning about his team playing games at times that - to him - only benefit the revenue of the television broadcasters, but at the same time, he’s happy to undoubtedly trouser substantial sums for his advertising work (and he does a lot of adverts on telly here, for everything from financial services to Erdinger Weißbier, although his Erdinger advert is nowhere near as good as the legendary one featuring Franz Beckenbauer).

I often wonder what our esteemed Premier League overlords would think if other leagues started arranging their games in this country, i.e. Milan versus Juventus or Valencia versus Barcelona? Quite rightly, I think, they would swiftly find a way to politely ask them to **** off, and I hope that the Football Associations of the USA, Japan etc will tell our Premier League to do the same. It's colonial behaviour through football.

There’s almost an argument for playing sports that have a popular following in a „foreign“ country, where that country doesn’t have its own decent standard locally (such as NFL games) but where you’ve a local equivalent that is just as appealing, it’s absolute nonsense.

The argument over „Game 39“ was had and defeated before, I would hope the same happens again.

Want to take „your“ team for lucrative matches overseas?

Cool, do it in preseason when it’s non-competitive and nobody cares.

Why should - for example - the bulk of Forest‘s matchday-attending fanbase have to miss a live game, because some yank twatbadger wants to drag them to New York to play against his vanity project in a competitive league match?

It being an extra game (39th) makes no sense. If we have another underwhelming season, how could it be fair if we played Man City and a relegation rival played Ipswich?

But then, if it’s one of the 38 games, what happens to PSR if it replaces a home game?

Crackpot idea.

Let's figure out a way to offer them very cheap travel and accommodations,' he said. 'If Liverpool is playing Nottingham Forest, we will support fans coming to New York and make this an attractive thing for the fans as well.

So how does this fit with the green agenda then?

The sooner FSG, Glazers and Boley piss off the better!

New York is probably the most expensive US city to visit, when you factor in accommodation costs (which are usury in NYC), flights, and the inevitable pain in the arse that would be getting to (most probably) MetLife stadium in New Jersey, where I’m sure they would insist on playing such a game.

I thought we already had poor tired players. Making them travel across several time zones in order to play a game of football in the middle of the season is plain madness. It's already bad enough when players have to travel many miles to play World Cup qualifying games for their country in international breaks, subjecting them to more unnecessary travel makes a mockery of the complaint of too many matches.

I'll agree with all you say other than getting to MetLife - it's a doddle, brilliant transport links, could almost be German it's that well organised

It’s gone down terribly with the Liverpool fan base. Spirit of Shankly have put out a statement condemning it. They must be thinking ‘not again’, first the Super League rubbish and now this.

The 'Champions' League makes a mockery of the 'too many games' argument. It has nothing to do with the number of games and everything to do with some teams' opponents for those games.
