Taiwo Micheal Awoniyi

Awoniyi - very surprised people are talking about letting him leave on loan - as has already been said give him a month let him get match fit and
then we will have a real threat he will terrorise defenders in this league when he is fully fit.

We have very short memories. Last season all the talk was about the panic because of no striker, now apparently we have two of the best (despite their age) and talk of more is just hype.

Two more, IMO, will not be overcooking it, but it looks as if we might not get either, which fills me with dread. So far we've played two games, had over 30 shots at goal and scored two goals.

A striker (or better still, two) would seem imperative and the window closing is fast approaching, with plenty of other clubs also in the same market. Another deadline day cliffhanger?

We need and will get another striker - quality yet to be determined - but as I said earlier I still think a fit and firing Awoniyi will be the best striker at the club. And therein lies the problem...

Excellent workmanlike shift for 70 minutes. Knackered after that and likely only stayed on as Anderson was clearly out on his feet at the same time.

Penalty aside, still looks so unnatural in front of goal more often than not.

Happy he got the full 90 and seemed to be instructed to come deep a lot more than usual and he done well. Should have scored from that absolute gem of a cross from Sosa and the penalty was just....not great.

We know he's a confidence player, a couple of goals off and he will be back. Its whether or not he will get the patience from Nuno because the overall quality and depth has shot up over the entire squad and its no surprise we're willing to go big on a different option up front.

Did well to complete the 90 as he was done for with 30 mins to go.

I reckon Wood gets the nod on Saturday and Awoniyi will come on as a sub late on. If he makes it through that then there's the international break and he can work on fitness for two weeks.

Then it's Liverpool away, probably let Wood start that one as well as not a game we're expected to win so don't need to rush Taiwo in.

But then Brighton away is one that maybe he gets the nod for, then 6 day rest and Fulham at home.

Lad out in a good shift - shame about the conversion at the end but you could see he looked both gassed and not feeling confident on the way up. Next time..

There was a moment where I thought he was injured after a tussle with Burn - think he did too fit a moment so that's another hurdle done.

Onwards....

I do try not to bang on about this, I really do… but I just don’t think he’s very good. I saw someone say they’d watched his old goals back and remembered how good he is/was. I do the same and I see mis-controls, deflections and ricochets in the main. We’re now all about giving this guy more time than any pro should need to play his way into a fitness and form that I’m not sure he’s even got. Sure he’s an athlete and a physical specimen, and that was neat when we were trying to pinch breakaway goals. But his mastery of the football is (and has always been in my eyes) miles away, and we need more. Get him back to his best, and i don’t expect my opinion to change.

The quest for a striker concerns me. We’ll be fine regardless but we could be great with a technically solid and mobile striker to compete with (and ideally improve on) Wood.

I’ll now retreat back into my corner, take my pelters like a champ and read all about how Taiwo is second only to Haaland in the premier league. Never been much of a fan of kool aid.

Probably one of his better games but I’d still probably rather have Turner taking a penalty than Taiwo.

He’s got to go I’m afraid. I’ve been been saying it for months and fundamentally he’s not very good with the ball. In fact, he’s a dreadful technical player.
Unfortunately I agree. He's a one trick pony and that trick requires him to be fully fit.

For the most part, I agree. When he's on it he seems to score for fun, but he never really looks comfortable doing so does he?

The real problem is, who the hell would come for him given his current injury record? I cannot imagine we'd recoup what we paid for him.

Then again, we were willing to pay £30M for Nketiah, so maybe we would.

I agree, so many goals come of his arse or shin, hes got little close control or craft, but he has scored those goals. I dont deny his goals kept us up, and hes a real handful for defenders, but i would also like to see a striker that offers more, especially being fit enough to play regularly would be a start.

It’s a loan jobbie for him I reckon.

We need two strikers, one to replace him, and one to be a massive number one. Whether that happens is now tricky but I’m sure that’ll have been the initial plan.

Taiwo's asset was never his finishing finesse but his sheer strength and the way he would brute force his way past defenders

He's lost that though, which I'm sad to say doesn't leave very much to his game

Have to agree with some of the comments about Taiwo. Seems a lovely bloke but he's not a good technical player and never has been.

That said I think he gives us something else, as long as he's properly fit. For the last half hour he is brilliant to bring on, put himself about and bully defenders. He is very much like Keinan Davis in what he brings to the table and having a forward that can bring those attributes is crucial to being able to change things up. I think he offers us a lot in the squad but I think we are kidding ourselves to think he should be our number one striker playing every week, that's the player we need to buy. But suggesting we need to ship him out is wide of the mark for me, we wouldn't have been promoted without Keinan Davis and I think Taiwo is important to us in a similar role.

Ignoring the penalty (which is a bit like asking Jacqueline Kennedy if, apart from that, she enjoyed her trip to Dallas), Taiwo appeared to be giving Mr Marinakis a new option for his maritime trade tonight since he displayed the acceleration of, the pace of, the turning circle of, and the aerial prowess of an oil tanker.

And then there was the penalty.
