The club was an absolute shambles.
PVH had the right to strike and had he handled it differently, could have got the fans on side. But he acted like an absolute bellend so didn't.
Both parties came out of it terribly and Forest headed off into two decades in the wilderness.

If PVH had the right to strike (which he didn't) then so did Basset, Stone, Chettle, etc in fact the entire first team squad had the right to strike which would've meant us forfeiting fixtures and the fans who bought ST tickets not being able to attend
PVH wasn't some sort of working class hero sticking it to the men in suits, he was just a self serving wanker

I think most people recognise that we probably wouldn't have gone up in 97-8 without his goals.
He was always a bit of a mardy twat though which was probably one reason why he never played at a higher level than us really.
After the previously mentioned remarks at Celtic which led to him putting a transfer request in and coming here, he then tried to leave in the summer we got relegated. If he'd left then he'd be rivalling Liz Truss for staying in a job... But the club said no and I think he was given assurances about signings etc. after leading the club to promotion as an incentive to staying. So it's almost as though that whole season he was here under sufferance.
He never really hit any decent form in either PL spell with us and that was about the highest level he played at, so maybe that was his level - but even so, the team was shit both times round and 2nd time everyone thought he was a twat too so I don't think they passed to him ...
Imagine if he'd tried those antics on someone like Arsene Wenger or Alex Ferguson, which is probably another reason why no-one good bothered.

Campbell was a better striker than PVH. If you don't think so have a look at how many goals Kev scored for Everton in half a season. Kept them up single handed. And we would have got promoted without him, Bassett built a really good team that year.
He was right to be pissed off with the spivs who bought the club because they basically relegated us before the season started. But the way he went about it just showed what grade A tosser he is. If he'd have played, given his all, but called for us fans to protest against the owners, we'd have been marching support.
The only good thing to come out of it all was that the criminals who took us over missed out on the Premier League gravy boat.

I agree with all of this perhaps with the exception of gaining promotion without the goals of PVH-the
competition from Middlesbrough,Sunderland and Charlton was ferocious that season.
I certainly agree that Campbell was a better striker than PVH-letting him go merely confirmed our
self induced relegation.

Bologna have blocked a move in this window for striker Sydney van Hooijdonk.It’s understood Celtic, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Wolfsburg have all been keen on the 23-year-old.
Van Hooijdonk has been considering his options this summer, in a bid for regular game time.

20-years of hindsight would say he was potentially in the right, and we were terrible ran behind the scenes... but he let the fans down by going on strike.
