Crap isn’t it. He comes across a decent guy in a footballing world he doesn’t quite belong?

His demeanour doesn’t quite match sport

He's had 5 strokes too and they only found the cancer when investigating one of them.

Sad news but really this shows the importance of routine screening, especially in older people.

Sad times. One of the most memorable England matches of my lifetime was the 5-1 win over Germany on their own patch.

Sven gave us a bit of light relief when he was recruited in the Munto Finance fiasco.

Sad to hear his news, never a diagnosis you want to hear either as family or patient.

God bless Sven. He has always come across like a very decent man.

People say he had the golden generation. Yes, he had good players but they were never fully together and these players admit that now.

As much as they wanted to, they couldn't fully integrate with England and there was always a club divide. Clicks behind the scenes.

Also, look at Sven's left wingers. Nick Barmby, Stewart Downing, or trying to fit Scholes or Gerrard into the side with Lampard.

I'd have loved to have seen Sven with today's England squad. Sven is a manager who actually won things. Stay strong Sven 🙏

Sad news. Any England manager that oversees a 1 - 5 thrashing of Germany, in their own back yard, is a legend in my view!!!

That was brilliant. What was not so clever was sitting on a 1-0 against Brazil in 2002.
That set the template for other hopeless rearguard play throughout the next 20 years.
Good luck to SGE!

Yah but at that point David Seaman was still one of the best in the world and no-one thought he would get taken over by the spirit of count vlachula for that Ronaldinho free kick

I was still in school when he was manager but I vividly remember Ronaldinho lobbing Seaman (the footballing term, we didn't have a Brazilian kid in school randomly chucking his muck about, he was Canadian and nicknamed Spider Sid) I remember the team and I remember when Germany scored my dad said "right that's that then" and he bundled us into the car to pick up the chippy tea, we ended up sat outside the chip shop listening to the rest on the radio.

My dad started that game saying "told you that Heskey was an absolute donkey" to him scoring iirc and saying "I've always thought that Heskey is a decent player"

Sven actually had me interested in watching the national team.

Seemed a proper gentleman. Overcame a lot of opposition to being first foreign england manager. Had a decent competition record compared to most.
