Memphis Depay worth a punt as a third striker? He's almost Hollands topest ever scorer. Beating Cruyf, Van Nistelrooy and everyone who isn't called Van Persie

I know it's easy to slate players but until that contact is put in front of you then you don't really know what you'd do.

I'd say no
I can’t really remember seeing offers for him from other clubs-but surely there must have been offers made to him and Brentford which included £100k plus a week. So I would have thought there was some middle ground that he could have pushed for but he wanted big bucks. His choice, but like a few on here said he comes across as hugely unlikable and our away game at Brentford-his come back game and how that ended and his comments still annoys me!

He is a money grubbing greedy player (who can score goals).
I'm glad he's gone to Saudi.
I see there is a Dutch player gone to Saudi as well, and Koemann has said "He obviously has no football ambition, so his time playing for Holland is over".

I can never get my head around why a professional footballer would prefer to sit on his arse in September than play.

De Gea springs to mind. He basically took a year's break in the prime of his career, presumably as he wasn't being offered the kind of money he thought he deserved. It's not like you'd be offered peanuts to go somewhere for a 1 year deal. We'd have probably offered him £100k a week this time last year and you're a long time retired.

Sometimes I wonder if these players will regret this sort of thing years down the line when they actually are retired.

I’d be interested in Depay or Martial as forward options.

I’d imagine Martial has priced himself out of a deal with anyone so far and will look at Saudi money as an option. He would be high risk but potentially high reward. United have a track record of damaging players, he has all the talent you could ask for.

Depay would be less of a risk but the upsides are a lot less at this point IMO.

I think both are probably too pricey to be worth the punt but we should definitely be asking the question

The de gea year out is crazy. I’m guessing he was pushing for some silly money but ended up with zero for a year and his stock reducing massively. I doubt he is on massive money at fiorientina.

I remember years ago Darius vassell (I think) was still on a relatively poor contract at Villa, maybe £4k or £5k pw and his stock had risen after England caps. This is when top players were maybe on £40k per week. He was offered £20k a week and refused it, so played on for another year on the lesser contract but eventually signed it. So he missed out on maybe £700/800k but imagine I fb he’d got a terrible injury that season. Potentially could be out of contract at the end of the season and career in question and only a smaller contract to fall back on. Grab the financial security.

£400k a week on a 4 year deal is generational wealth. His kids, grandkids and great grandkids should also benefit from his move, he will be able to take friends and family out of poverty too (if he is that way inclined). I know £40k a week/£1m a year is obscene money, but that type of money is another level.
