Steve Cooper will always be the MAN!

It’s simple. Which side of the fence are you on?

Wow, how quickly the sands of time can shift, was less than a couple of weeks ago when people were being referred to as 'Cooper out jokers' and getting plenty of likes for it, everyone else was at fault but Cooper for the problems at the club.
I was a Cooper out person, but didn’t get any grief, although aware some did. I think the folk who perhaps did get some may have been disrespectful towards Coops, which is out of order. Glad he’s gone though as the new appointment seems to have breathed new life into the team. Think Coops will go to Birmingham next, but we’ll see. In Nuno we trust🌳🏆🏆

This bears little to no relevance to what GP posted.
The relevance is that when Cooper was our manager, he was almost faultless and many were willing him to be successful elsewhere to the detriment of Forest just to prove what a bad decision it was to get rid of him. Nuno being a sideways move etc.

Now it's hope he gets them relegated?

If nothing else it's the typical internet comment of "and these are the same people that five minutes ago were saying xyz!!" as if anyone's actually keeping track of who said what. I don't suppose GP said anything like you suggest.

Thanks for memories Steve Cooper you are a Forest legend but as one door closes another one opens.

If Cooper takes over a team that are in a relegation battle along side Forest then I’m going to want him to fail, nothing personal against Steve mind.

What he did was legendary and he'll never have to buy a pint again in Nottingham but its time to move on.

Of course we will want him to fail at a relegation rival.

That said, a fresh start may do Cooper wonders. He seemed in a rut here and unable to shift mindset and to allow the players to flourish.

We have, in a very short time, seen what a change in tactics and emphasis is capable of doing. Hopefully for his sake he has reflected on that. For our sake let's hope he hasn't and that he drags Palace down into the relegation fight...

Nope!

I understand the sentiment though, and didn't think it would be a popular post, but I am a fan of Nottingham Forest and regardless of how much I like/respect the work that Cooper did for us, if he's at our level I don't want to see him do well at our expense.

I'd really like him to get the England job tbh, and wonder if the talk of a 'break from football' has him lining that up, or as a fall back the Wales job. Ill be right behind him if that's the case.

I keep track.

You're correct though; wanting Cooper to succeed at Forest and wanting him to not succeed elsewhere at our expense aren't contradictory positions.

(I also think there is an argument to be made about Cooper's tactical awareness and that his man management may have only been a strength for a certain type of player, though it's probably too early/raw to be going into that, and I personally would have been happy to let that play out/find out those answers with him still in post, because in my eyes he deserved that right with what he'd achieved here.)

I agree with this. I like Steve Cooper but he has to tread carefully with his next job, if he joins Palace and it goes sour for him it may set him back quite a bit in becoming an established Premierleague manager.
Agree with this.

He did wonders in his first season, I think he was slightly fortunate last year in that I'm not sure our staying up was as much about the coaching side of things as it was the pure desire of the fans and the good feeling around the club.

This year he showed a really quite alarming absence of tactical nous and a complete inability to get the most out of the players (including ones he championed himself).

He's a great guy, an amazing personality and galvanised the City and club in ways noone else has in decades. But he's got some very real tactical shortcomings at this level and he isn't going to be afforded the leeway he got here, elsewhere.

I can see Palace fans turning on him really, really quickly if he sets them up anything like he did us.

What I am saying is life isn't black or white, usually shades of grey. Just like Copper wasn't perfect, Nuno isn't either so this unconditional support, and "till knobheads circle" etc is having a blinkered fan boy view again. I'll praise when it is due and criticise when it is warranted and everyone should be allowed to without the insults.

That bares no relevance to the post you quoted though.

Are you expecting people to want Steve Cooper to be successful with a potential relegation rival?

Dont understand the point youre making to be honest dude.

I'm not sure you made that point particularly clearly in relation the to post of mine you quoted, though that's fair enough.

Ultimately the only opinion that counts for anything is that of the owner.

Lightening might not strike twice though (promotion from the championship) hence risky, he needs more learning on the job and a club with no real threat of relegation would be ideal however don't think we can fully discount Palace from that catagory.

Exactly! It’s also very nuanced as well. I thought we sacked a little too soon but that dosen’t mean Cooper wasn’t get the best out of the players. Some of coopers decisions sometimes did leave me baffled and his eye for a player isn’t the best.

I also was sceptical about Nuno cause he played the same way as cooper. However I’ve been wrong on that. Nuno has orchestrated our best ever performance since promotion and without our number 1 striker.

So it’s all very confusing as a reds fan and nuanced. You can only say what you see and see where everything lies after that.

Palace is a pretty easy job in general, they have good enough players to stay up & have little expectation to fly up the league. Although their fans are getting jaded with nothing happening every season so it will need to be pretty to get them onside.
