I disagree there - in the position of the two players and ball it was as obvious a pen as can be, and the ref should have called it. Because he didn't we then go down the 'clear and obvious' route, meaning the var has to disagree with him, which he didn't. Also, I don't class Taylor as a good ref.
Right. Then I guess all the people at UEFA don't understand what a good ref is either. How many international tournaments has he fooled people over now? Six maybe? Taylor is obviously a very clever fella, to fool so many people for so long.

If they came out and spoke to the public, just like the manager and players are forced to do, often very soon after a really tense and fraught game, it would make such a difference.
As I’ve posted before VP, this is a frequent - and expected - thing in the Bundesliga.

If there is a contentious decision in a match, often, the man with the whistle will be called before the cameras post-match, to explain his decision. And they seem delighted to do this, especially when they can most often explain why they called a decision as they did, and in the process, take some wind out the sails of certain blowhard Trainers (yes, you, Thomas Tuchel and Marco Rose, for two examples).

As an example, after the spicy 1-1 between Dortmund and Leverkusen at the weekend, Daniel Siebert (who will go to Euro 2024 as one of two German referees) explained how the late-game melee that first saw Victor Boniface given a straight red card was initially viewed, and following the intervention of the VAR, reviewed, with the red card correctly rescinded, and then of course, Leverkusen scored in the subsequent stoppage time.

I'm sure they are all capable of reffing well.

If he could just get the key decisions for us correct I might be a bit more forgiving...

I was at the Newcastle game - awful referring performance, including missing at least one (I forget if it was Taiwo and Williams that day, or if I'm conflating appeals from different matches) clear penalty and was inconsistent throughout. Bournemouth game - awful: we've all seen what happened. Sunday? Same as before.

If that's the level of top refereeing that gets you to the top I don't know what to say. He's been shit in pretty much all of our games this year so maybe he's just corrupt?

(In fact didn't he ref the arsenal game - was there a solid appeal for a Yates pen in that one too?)

Edit: the Bournemouth game wasn't Taylor - either he was fourth (unlikely) or on var or the site I checked on had it wrong.

Me neither, but it's also the case that Stroud has been a Luton Town fan since boyhood.
But it's not as if the 4th official does anything unless your name is Britt Assombalonga

Listened to Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist this morning on Talk Sport. They had been speaking to Eddie Gray about the Leeds match on Monday. They briefly referenced the 1975 European Cup Final v Bayern Munich with Ally McCoist saying that “at best they (Leeds) were unlucky”. I remembered the match being controversial but couldn’t remember the details. A quick search of the internet reminded me that Bayern won 2-0 and Leeds had two strong penalty appeals turned down and a goal disallowed. The Leeds fans started throwing missiles and there were fights with the police and in Paris afterwards. There were claims at the time that the referee had cheated but nothing could be proved.

I really would have liked Ally McCoist to expand on his comments this morning. If he thinks that “at best they (Leeds) were unlucky”, what is he implying that the worst case scenario was?

These controversial incidents happened in the game 50 years ago and other corruption has been proven in a blackmail case relating to the Anderlecht debacle in 1984. What makes the pundits think that football has cleaned up it’s act in the last half century and that corruption might not still exist to the extent that they blindly defend the integrity of the English game? It seems that these pundits are able to take a moral high ground against Forest with the current media ‘pile on’ but they are able to make inferences about a match with similar circumstances from 50 years ago where nothing was ever proven.

I was a little embarrassed when out statement first came out on Sunday. However, the subsequent support from genuine football supporters and the contrasting bullshit from pundits and the media has made me pleased that we are fighting our corner.

Leeds would have brought more missiles.

Ryan will be over the moon... He did the Spurs game a couple of weeks ago where he was on the receiving end of a 50/50 minimal contact debatable foul from Maddison and also the 2-1 vs Arsenal (at home)

PGMOL'd that for you.

What I do not understand is the way VAR is implanted in the Premier league.
In France the moment that a VAR call is made, the referee runs to the pitch side monitor and discusses the incident with the VAR officials while watching the video and a decision is made.
In our system the referee stands in the on the pitch and waits for the VAR officials to tell him what to do, and only calls him to the monitor to change his decision.
