Many Americanisms are in fact old English that we have lost and they retained (gotten for example)
There are parts of the Appalachian mountains where the accent hasn’t been diluted by TV and movement where the accent is supposed to be reminiscent of old English, you’ve got to be brave to go there to test it through, they don’t like strangers up in them parts.
