Pre season friendly #1: Coventry City

Any Time Now

Jack Armstrong
If people are concerned about losing a pre season friendly then god help us when we go on our first premier league losing streak, how long until people are writing off this summers signings and suggesting managerial replacements? I'll give it until October

As others have said, our target for the first season has to be survival.
I know the owner says it isn't... but he would say that.
The gulf in class between the Championship and the Premiership is vast.
That isn't just in players, but also in coaches, training methods, management etc.
I would argue that the teams that survive for more than a single season have the management, coaching and support systems and resources in place.
Without that no amount of decent players will ensure survival.
At Forest, i think the project has taken 5-years to achieve the promotion because of a total lack of managerial, coaching and support systems at the start.
WE couldn't even pay the local newsagent under Fawaz.
We are making a lot of progress.
Hopefully, that will be sufficient to ensure we do survive, and from a solid first year we go on to improve with every passing season.

The example thatā€™s always stuck in my mind is Newcastle losing their friendly at Leyton Orient 6-1 (which caused some hysteria), before going on to win the Championship fairly convincingly the first time they came down.
I remember a poor Forest display against Notts County in the County Cup final pre-season in 1977.
5 days later we were giving joint Championship favourites Everton a lesson at Goodison Park.
