Paterson up front?

If Forest are keeping on with the diamond, and he's not being picked in midfield would it be worth giving him a try as a roaming support striker or just as one of two general purpose forwards?

I was thinking exactly this... right after yet another one of our forward players yet again failed to get past a defender in a 1 v 1 situation. Pace causes problems, you can see that purely from Bournemouth, whose only threats were the little fast guy and a long throw.

Paterson has pace, can dribble and can score. Get him up alongside Hendo.

Henderson has only looked dangerous this season as a sub coming on when we're chasing the game and the other team are sitting deep. When teams defend further up the pitch he hasn't got a clue and spends all his time either off side or fouling defenders. I wouldn't start him.

I'd be happy to give it a try.

I called for this in the middle of the Bournemouth game. I think he'd do well.

He's very positive and pacey, looks intelligent and confident on the ball, runs at defenders, and his shooting ain't bad either.

Need to try something different up top, Paterson always has a go when he comes on would be nice to see what he could offer up top

He's being swapped along with Darlow, Cohen and Abdoun plus 20 million for Sako, as we are blatantly rich

Paterson must be worth at least a chance our current choice of strikers are poor at best and have had enough chances to prove themselves

Cox had a poor game today - anyone can miss chances - the 1 on 1 was disappointing again but it's not as if he just shot wildly at the goalie, he went for the corner and it just didn't come off. It wasn't his day at all, really needs a confidence boost ie a goal.

The worst thing about Cox was how much he (and DH) were offside. He clearly wasn't with it today for some reason, and looked exhausted. This was worse than missing chances because it's so avoidable, and it was disastrous for our game in general.

The problem we have is that Cox performs for us. I think we all know by now how well our forwards aid our gameplan in keeping the ball in wide positions. It would be lovely if he was knocking in 15 goals aswell, which would be a fantastic return for someone playing his role, but he's obviously not going to do this - our problem is do we sacrifice what he does bring to the team?

It's far more complicated than 'he's not scoring drop him' - Paterson looks better to me at doing something decisive with the ball - but his play is high risk and not necessarily what we need before the rest of the team catch him up - Billy wants the forwards to hold the ball up quite a lot, "decisive players" as I call them don't keep the ball, they try and do something else with it.

We just need to get these guys confidence up and make them more clinical - I wouldn't want to see us change our gameplan because I think it works.

PS did someone say Yeovil were poo...? [cringes] rod for our own backs. No team in this league is poo - didn't you watch last season?

Really want to see him get a run of games now. Unleash him and perhaps the freshness of him will raise our energy levels and bring a bit of positivity back into our play.

At any other club this type of player would be getting played and flourishing.

He's got too much pace and technique to be playing a part at the moment. He's a miles better player than Cox, Mackie or Derbyshire, but hasn't got the experience of not scoring goals so let him sit on the bench this year and next year we can send him out on loan. Then the year after we'll let him go for free and when he'll be able to fill his obvious potential..

Good post and I agree. I'd rather see Henderson and Cox get a run of games to develop their understanding and build confidence.
Pato's an exciting prospect but still looks a bit raw to me. Better off the bench currently.

I got in first with this idea this time it seems!

Unlike with the Cohen at left back thing (I had only just signed up though):whoosh:

Anyway no problem with a duplicate thread - the more Paterson as a forward threads the better IMO!

There was a goal in pre-season (I think against Antwerp) that really stood out for me where he is concerned. Him playing is something I see as important. I completely get why he isn't in midfield right now though.

I think if we are going to have a genuine chance of promotion we need to get in a decent striker instead of trying to get more wingers.
we've been here before where we try to make do and hope we can scrape through the playoffs (too many times)

Who would you suggest that we realistically could get though? That's the difficulty with it. We have what 2 wingers right now? Good ones but only two. We have several strikers one of them has just been sent out on loan and another signed a contract extension in the summer to not even get into the 18 yet this season.

I'm all for signing a goalscorer, I just don't have a clue who that person is! And with the amount of money we are going to be talking it just has to be the right choice.

We should play with three left wingers (Patterson and Abdoun and somebody else fast)and no strikers or right wingers. Then their left back and center backs would be left alone doing nothing, and their right back would be goin' crazy.
