Odysseas Vlachodimos (and Pliers)

At least when Fawaz's patriotism insisted upon Al Rashidi joining the side he had the good grace to realise he was shit

Vlach is so beyond shit the Greeks can't even see it

He didn’t; we couldn’t get a work permit for him

I don’t think Blackpool’s second goal was on Vlad. Not saying he’s good, but the forum pile-on tonight feels slightly unwarranted.

That’s him all over though isn’t it? Rarely 100% to blame, but never seems to do anything that might have helped.

The second goal was a bit like the second Blackpool goal at home. Yes, Worrall and Montiel were more to blame (Williams and Murillo last night) but Vlachodimos contributed absolutely nothing to try and keep it out and may as well have been in the crowd for both goals for all the good he did.

I just think he is too passive and his positioning is poor. So it never looks like he’s made an absolute ricket, but he’s never on the right place. He’s like the opposite of a great keeper who never needs to make flashy saves because their positioning and anticipation is so good (e.g. Seaman).

I hope it's safe to say that Nuno, having seen him in goal in a proper match, will never play him again.

It makes our need for a young vibrant striker and a 'keeper even more urgent.

I think the keeper problem is more easily solved than the striker, simply because there is only one goalkeeper playing in each match, so there must be useful 'keepers on the bench every week, itching for a game.

Was pleasantly surprised to see him out of his area in the 2nd half sweeping up some of those long balls forward. Overall though he just looks(like turner) a bit like a rabbit in the headlights.

The whole defensive unit is affected by the keeper, not just that position itself. They need confidence that he can command and direct them when they are out of place. I'm not seeing any off that with Vlach. Turner is the best of two Championship standard options at the moment.

Not solely. Murillo didn't paint himself in glory either. But the cross was looped up into the air and was headed in about 2 yards from the goal-line. A better keeper gets his hands to it. If for whatever reason he really doesn't think he can take the ball then at least position yourself better and make yourself as big as possible. What he did was just ... nothing... it just reminded me of one of those kids who gets stuck in net when they're 7 cos they're shit at football and so they're mostly out of the way, but they don't stop tame shots at them.

This is bang on.

Another thing is that I don't think some fans get that it's the keepers job to cover for mistakes made by defenders anyway. That's why he's there - if defenders didn't make mistakes, then shots and chances on goal wouldn't happen most of the time.

Defenders are gonna make mistakes, and that's when good keepers step up and cover their backs with great saves, dominant cover and commanding the area assisted by a the very valuable element of being able to handle the ball with their hands.

No one played Vlach into trouble last night, no-one put him on the backfoot, there were two situations where he had to make himself a force to deflect the opposition, and he wasn't even on the radar for either.

I can't remember a successful team that didn't have a good keeper.
Look at spurs keeper who gets their defence out ot trouble several times every game and with Vlach in goal spurs would be bottom of the league.
We need a quality keeper or we will struggle in every game in every league and I can't believe Nuno won't get us a good all round keeper because he's an ex keeper so must see what we see?

He can't really complain. He was given a chance and was, regrettably, absolutely hopeless. Never been less confident in a keeper to make a save - it got to the point where I almost expected a pea roller straight at him from 30 years to somehow go in.

So bizarre as his CV suggests he's a quality goalkeeper - but something has gone badly wrong since he signed for us.

You are Matildas Marinakis, and I claim my free Divok Origi Autograph.
Nah, just making the point that he's not *that* bad.

Lots of players we consider not good enough for Forest have excellent careers elsewhere, look at Remo Freuler, who could be playing Champions League football with Bologna next season! He's a big part of a rossoblu side having their best season in a very long time.

I don't get how Vlach could be that good, having seen him barely make a save that most of us wouldn't make, but ........ he's still Greece's number one and I'm sure he'll have his suitors in the summer, thankfully!
